Emory Golf Opens Spring Season At Callaway Gardens Tournament

The No. 10-ranked Emory University golf team will compete in its first tournament of the spring this Monday and Tuesday (Mar. 6-7) when it takes part in the Callaway Gardens Collegiate Invitational.  The 36-hole event will be played at the 7,057-yard, par-72 Callaway Gardens Mountain View Course located in Pine Mountain, Georgia.  Serving as the host of the Invitational will be Berry College.

Emory will be one of 17 teams in the hunt for the title, with this year's field comprised of 10 of the top 25-ranked D-III programs in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll including #1 Huntingdon, #5 Berry College, #6 Methodist and #7 Oglethorpe University.

During the fall portion of the season, freshman Matt Organisak was one of three Emory players who logged all 10 rounds of play over five competitions, posting an average of 73.4 strokes per round, which included a team-best four rounds of par or better.  Juniors Keenan Hickton (74.4 spg) and Sean Murphy (74.7 spg) were the other Eagles to see action in all five events during the fall.

Competing for Emory in its spring opener will be Yakubov, Hickton, Organisak and sophomores Noah Apter and Stefano Butti.

Last season, Emory tied for ninth place out of 17 squads.

Following the Callaway Gardens Invitational, Emory will prepare for the University Athletic Association Championships, Mar. 11-12, at the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida.
