Emory Golf Looks To Defend Title At UAA Championships

Emory Golf Looks To Defend Title At UAA Championships

Fresh off a first-place performance at the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate, the Emory golf team turns its attention to this weekend's (Mar. 11-12) University Athletic Association Championships. Hosting the event will be the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida.

For the second straight year, the Championships will feature a match-play format with top-seeded Emory taking on No. 4 seed New York University on the opening day, while second-seeded Carnegie Mellon clashing with No. 3 seed Rochester.  The winners advance to Sunday's title match with the losing teams competing for third and fourth place.

Emory enters this year's action looking to defend its title after registering a 4-2 decision over Rochester in the 2016 final.  Sophomore Stefano Butti was named Most Valuable Player at last year's UAA championship and earned first team All-Association honors. Sophomore Connor Yakubov was named the 2016 UAA Men's Golf Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. Sophomore Noah Apter was named to the all-tournament team and received second team All-Association accolades last year.
Sophomore Anthony Muscato played his way to a berth on the Championships All-Tournament Team and was first team All-Association honoree, while junior Keenan Hickton was a second team All-UAA selection.

Emory is looking to continue the momentum following its title performance at Callaway Gardens where it posted a one-stroke win over LaGrange College.  Freshman Matt Organisak recorded a 36-hole score of four-over par 148 (74-74), tying for 10th place in the 102-player field. Butti, Apter and Yakubov all placed among the top-25 finishers.
