Fresh off winning the program's third straight University Athletic Association Championships, the Emory University golf team continues its spring season this weekend (Mar. 16-18) when it competes at the prestigious Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. The 54-hole event will be played on the 6,700-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course, and serving as the host institution will be Oglethorpe University.
Emory, ranked No. 6 in the latest Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll, will be one of 30 teams in this year's talent-stacked field. Eight of the top 10 and a total of 14 of the top-25 ranked programs will take part. In addition to Emory, other top-10 squads include No. 1 UT-Tyler, No. 2 Huntingdon, No. 3 Illinois Wesleyan, No. 5 Methodist, no. 8 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, No. 9 Oglethorpe and No. 10 Washington and Lee.
No. 15-ranked Greensboro College enters this year's event as defending champion. Emory recorded a fifth-place finish out of 29 teams in the 2017 last season with Stefano Butti and Matt Organisak playing their way to all-tournament team honors.
With match play being implemented for the third straight year, Emory defended its title, its sixth UAA crown over the past eight years, defeating New York University, 4-1, in the semifinals and Carnegie Mellon, 3.5-1.5 in the championship match. Senior Keenan Hickton was named Most Valuable Player while sophomore Matt Organisak earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
