The No. 6-ranked Emory University golf team completed its opening round of action at the Wynlakes Intercollegiate on Monday. The 36-hole tourney is being played at the 6,972-yard, par-72 Wynlakes Country Club in Montgomery, Alabama.
The Eagles stand second out of 16 teams after the first day of play, registering a team score of 296. No. 2-ranked and host Huntingdon College holds down the top spot at 293. No. 19 Wittenberg is third with a 299 while LaGrange College (304) and Rhodes College (308) round out the top five.
Emory junior Stefano Butti leads the 88-player field after the opening 18 holes with an outstanding three-under par 69, tying his second-best career mark. Butti ended the day bogey free while making birdies on the third, 13th and 14th holes. Sophomore Matt Organisak carded an even-par 72 and is tied for fifth place on the leader board. Freshman Eric Yiu finds himself in 24th position after registering a five-over par 77. Senior Keenan Hickton and junior Connor Yakubov each finished with a 78. Junior Anthony Muscato, playing as an individual, shot an 80.
Drew Mathers of Huntingdon is one shot behind Butti heading into Tuesday's final round.
