1st Round Results

The Emory University golf program completed its opening round of action at its Discover DeKalb Emory Spring Invitational on Saturday. The 36-hole tourney is being played at the 6,510-yard, par-70 Smoke Rise Country Club in nearby Stone Mountian.

The Emory first side and its "B" team battled windy and cool conditions throughout the day, with both groups tied for second place with a score of six-over par 286.  No. 2-ranked Huntingdon holds down the top spot at 285. No. 1-ranked Methodist is fourth at 294 while Sewanee stands fifth after turning in a 298.

Freshman Eric Yiu led the first team's scoring effort with a two-under par 68 that places him second on the 83-player leader board.  Sophomore Matt Organisak carded a two-over 72, ranking 11th in the field, while senior Keenan Hickton and junior Connor Yakubov each finished at 73.

The "B" Team claims three of the top 10 performers after the first 18 holes, paced by junior Noah Apter whose even-par 70 ties for the No. 3 spot. Sophomore Sam Galloway and junior Anthony Muscato each fired one-over 71, tying the duo for sixth. Junior Sean Murphy closed out that team's scoring contingent with a 74.

Jon Colten Stanaland from Huntingdon recorded the best round of the day with a three-under par 67.

The final round will be held Sunday starting at 8:30 am.
