The Emory University men's golf team stands in a tie for the seventh at the NCAA Championships following day one action at the Keens Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
The Eagles shot a two-over par 290 on Tuesday and stand six strokes back of field leader St. John's (MN) who finished the day with a four-under 284. The first round featured a shotgun start while all teams had to endure multiple weather delays.
Freshman Brian Hanson had one of the best days of his young career in the first round, shooting a five-under 67 as he stands in a tie for 1st individually. After a one-under on the front nine, Hanson had a birdie on five of the nine back nine holes to lead to the stellar first round.
Behind Hanson was junior Jackson Klutznick and sophomore Nicholas Nautiyal who each carded a two-over 74, good for a tie for 51st individually. Sophomore Michael Burry fired a 75 with classmate Tony Li posting a 76 to round out the Emory performers on Tuesday.
The NCAA Championships will continue on Wednesday with the field being cut to the top 18 teams at the end of the round.
