Eagles One Stroke off Lead After Strong Day One at Gate City Invitational

The Emory men's golf team started their season on Monday at the Gate City Invitational in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Eagles played two rounds on day one, finishing the day at -5 as a team and just one stroke off the lead.

The Eagles gained ground on their competition on Par 4s, shooting +6 on these holes through the first two rounds. The next best score on Par 4 holes was +11 from Oglethorpe. Emory also had the second-best team score on Par 5s, shooting -8 on Monday, just one stroke behind Oglethorpe on these holes.

Senior Jackson Klutznick led the way for Emory on Monday, shooting a 67 in the first round and a 69 in the second for a cumulative score of -6. The senior's impressive day puts him atop the individual leaderboard, leading Oglethorpe's Ryan Dunn by two strokes heading into the final round. Klutznick had the most efficient day of any golfer on Par 4s, averaging just 3.86 strokes on such holes.

Junior Michael Burry was not too far behind his teammate, shooting a 69 and a 72 in rounds one and two for a total score of -1. Burry had Emory's lone eagle of the day in his second round on hole seven, a 576 yard par 5.

Every Eagle finds themselves inside of the top-25 of the individual leaderboard heading into the third and final round tomorrow. The Eagles' team score is rounded out by junior Tony Li (E), freshman Kevin Mu (+3), and sophomore Brian Hanson (+4).

Hanson will tee off first for the Eagles tomorrow, heading to the tee box at 10:10 AM as the Eagles look to put together a strong final round.
