Men’s Golf Rallies for Third Place Finish at the NCAA Fall Preview

Men’s Golf Rallies for Third Place Finish at the NCAA Fall Preview

After finding itself in seventh place heading into the final day of the NCAA Fall Preview, the No. 2 Emory men's golf team rallied to a third-place finish after an impeccable third and final round on Tuesday. The Eagles posted the tournament's second-best score on the day, shooting a 274 (-14) to climb four spots on the leaderboard to tie for third place with Washington and Lee. The Eagles finished 26 strokes off the winner, Methodist University.

Emory led all teams in eagles at the competition, knocking in five over the course of the tournament – three of which came on Tuesday. The Eagles also fared well on Par 5s, averaging 4.39 strokes per hole on these holes and putting up a score of -34 on them as well.

Once again leading the Eagles was senior Jackson Klutznick, shooting a near perfect 67 (-5) in his final round. Klutznick had a dominant stretch of holes, tallying a birdy on five straight holes. He finished with seven birdies and just two bogeys. The senior finished the tournament shooting a 218 (+2) to finish tied for 11th place on the individual leaderboard.

Close behind was junior Josh Qian who turned in a 71 (-1) for the second straight round. Qian knocked in five birdies, but a double bogey and two bogeys diminished his score. Qian finished his competition shooting a 220 (+4) and tied for 16th place.

Junior Tony Li also put together a solid round, shooting a 74 (+2). Li found trouble on a few holes, bogeying six different legs of the day. However, a pair of birdies and an eagle helped elevate his score. The junior finishes his three-day competition turning in a 224 (+8) to finish tied for 33rd.

Freshman Kevin Mu turned in his best round of the competition on Tuesday, shooting a 69 (-3). He scored a par or better on all but one hole, including three birdies and an eagle. Mu's three-day total rounds out to a 226 (+10) to finish tied for 41st in his final tournament of his fall rookie season.

Junior Michael Burry re-entered the tournament on Tuesday after missing Monday's portion of the tournament, shooting a 67 (-5). Burry knocked down six birdies and an eagle on Tuesday, bringing his two-round total to 146.

This concludes the Emory men's golf team's fall slate of competition. The Eagles took home two competition wins on top of their 21st ever program UAA Championship. Emory will return to the course in March for the Savannah Invitational.
