Men’s Golf Concludes Play at Savannah Invitational with Second-Place Finish, Klutznick Named to All-Tournament Team

The Emory men's golf team concluded play at the Savannah Invitational on Tuesday, recording its best single-round score of the tournament with a 279 (-9) in the third and final round. The Eagles' wrapped up competition with a three-round total of 844 (-20) and saw four golfers finish inside of the top-13 of the individual leaderboard. Senior Jackson Klutznick was Emory's top performer, ending his tournament with a three-round score of 206 (-10) and tied for second on the individual leaderboard, just one stroke off the winner. He was named to the event's All-Tournament Team for his efforts.

After the second round was suspended due to darkness on Monday, Tuesday saw competitors play 23 holes to conclude the event. Emory finished their second round with a team score of 281 (-7), heading into the final round with a narrow two stroke lead. While the Eagles turned in an impressive finish, the No. 1 ranked Methodist Monarchs stormed back and recorded a tournament-best single-round score of 274 (-14) in the final leg to seize the tournament title in Savannah. The Monarchs finished three strokes ahead of Emory, recording an 841 (-23). The tournament was played at The Club at Savannah Harbor's Par 72, 6,851-yard course.

Emory concluded the tournament with 59 birdies and two eagles as a team, both the second most of any team at the event. The Eagles also saw plenty of success on Par 5s, shooting 13 under par on such holes over the three rounds.

Klutznick was dominant in his final two rounds, tapping in nine birdies and recording just one bogey over his final 36 holes. He carded a 68 (-4) in both of his final two rounds and did not bogey a single hole in his third round, leading to his All-Tournament selection. Nobody was better than Klutznick on Par 4s in Savannah, shooting eight under par on such holes during the tournament.

Sophomore Brian Hanson was impressive in his first tournament since mid-October, finishing with a three-round score of 212 (-4). Hanson played his best round of the tournament on Tuesday, shooting a 69 (-3) in his final round. He recorded four birdies and just one bogey in the final round, elevating him to an 11th place finish on the individual leaderboard.

Junior Michael Burry finished his strong second round on Tuesday morning, turning in a 69 (-3) before shooting a 72 (E) in his final round. Burry's third round saw him record three birdies and three bogeys as he remained steady on the leaderboard to finish tied for 13th. His three-round total came to 214 (-2).

Burry's classmate Tony Li also finished with a 214 (-2) to see himself tied for 13th place on the leaderboard. Li finished his second round with a 71 (-1) before carding a 72 (E) in his third round. Li's third round was a bit more volatile than Burry's, with five birdies and five bogeys.

Rounding out the Eagles' scores was junior Josh Qian. Qian turned in his best round of the tournament on Tuesday, shooting a 70 (-2) to climb 30 spots on the individual leaderboard and finish tied for 45th. Qian's final round saw him record six birdies while logging four bogeys. He finished his three rounds with a score of 222 (+6)

The Eagles will be back on the course later this month for the Oglethorpe Spring Invitational. The event will take place from Friday, March 22nd through Sunday, March 24th at King and Prince Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Georgia.
