Men’s Golf Concludes Play at Jekyll Island Collegiate with Seventh Place Finish

The No. 1 ranked Emory men's golf team concluded play at the Jekyll Island Collegiate in St. Simons Island, Georgia on Sunday afternoon. After play was suspended due to weather on Saturday, the Eagles finished off their second round shooting a 284 (E) before playing the final leg later in the afternoon. Despite entering the final day in second place, the Eagles ran out of gas in their final round, shooting a 307 (+23) to bring their three-round score to 885 (+33) and finishing in seventh place. The Eagles concluded play 15 strokes off the winner, Oglethorpe who turned in a score of 870 (+18). The event was played at the King and Prince Golf Club's 6,515-yard, Par-71 course.

Despite slipping on the leaderboard, Emory finished the tournament with a score of seven under par on the Par 5 holes at the event and saw two Eagles finish inside of the top-15 on the individual leaderboard.

Sophomore Brian Hanson finished tied for Emory's top performer in the event. Hanson concluded his second round shooting a 72 (+1) before carding a 75 (+4) in his third and final round. Hanson negated his two bogeys with as many birdies in the final round but found trouble on his front nine, double bogeying a pair of par 4s to put himself in a bit of a hole. Hanson led all Eagles in birdies at the tournament, tapping in nine over his three rounds. His three-round total came out to 219 (+6), finishing 10 strokes off the winner, Rhodes' Avery Stansell who shot a 209 (-4).

Senior Jackson Klutznick finishes his three-round event with a score of 219 (+6), tying with Hanson in 15th place. Klutznick turned in an impressive 70 (-1) in his second round before struggling a bit in his final round and turning in a 75 (+4). Klutznick finished 10 strokes off the winner.

Junior Michael Burry had a solid final day, registering a 74 (+3) in round two before shooting a 75 (+4) to bring his cumulative total to 221 (+8). Burry knocked in a triple bogey on hole 10 in his final round. Otherwise, the junior was very strong in his third round, shooting just one over par throughout the rest of his round. Burry finished tied for 27th on the individual leaderboard, 12 strokes off the winner.

Junior Josh Qian had the best round of any Eagle over the course of the entire tournament in round two, shooting a 68 (-3). However, the dominant round was bookended by an 81 (+10) and an 82 (+11) to bring his three-round total to 231 (+18) and finish tied for 92nd. Qian finished second on the team in birdies, with eight over three rounds.

Qian's classmate Tony Li rounds out the Eagles' lineup, finishing with a three-round score of 234 (+21). Li turned in a 76 (+5) in both of his first two rounds before carding an 82 (+11) in his final round on Sunday.

The Eagles will have a couple weeks off from competition before they head to Florence, Alabama to host the Shoals Intercollegiate. The event will span three days from Sunday, April 14th through Tuesday April 16th, playing one round each day.
