#2 Men’s Golf Turns in Strong Second Round at The Shoals Intercollegiate

The No. 2 ranked Emory men's golf team played its second round of The Shoals Intercollegiate tournament in Muscle Shoals, Alabama on Monday. The event was played at RTJ at the Shoals' Par-72, 7,165-yard Fighting Joe course.

The Eagles put together a very impressive collective effort, with all nine golfers at the event improving upon or matching their score from the first round. The Emory A-Team shot a 293 (+5) on Monday, bringing their overall score to 594 (+18) to climb into the top-three on the leaderboard. Emory's second lineup carded a 304 (+16) in round two to bring their overall score to 624 (+48) and head into the final round in ninth. Leading the way are #5 Carnegie Mellon and #1 Methodist, who are tied for the lead with scores of 572 (-4) heading into the final round on Tuesday.

Stealing the spotlight for the Eagles was junior Tony Li, who improved upon his day one score by 12 strokes while playing with the B-Team's lineup. Li turned in a 70 (-2) to climb 24 places on the individual leaderboard, placing him tied for 21st. The junior opened his round red-hot, birdying three holes on the front-nine. He was one of just four players to knock in a birdy on the 160-yard Par-3 ninth hole on Monday. After two rounds, Li's total comes to 152 (+8).

Senior Jackson Klutznick duplicated his round one score with another 71 (-1) on Monday afternoon. He too opened his round with a strong front-nine, shooting two under par. He knocked in 13 pars on the day, bringing his total to 26 this tournament – tied for the third most in the tournament. He is also just one of five players to be even or better on Par 4s over two rounds. He heads into his final round tied for fifth with a two-round score of 142 (-2) and just five strokes off the lead.

Junior Michael Burry had another strong showing on Monday, turning in a 72 (E) to improve his score by five strokes. Burry struggled to start, though, bogeying three of the first four holes. He was locked in the rest of his round, shooting three under par over his last 14 holes to help boost the A-Team's day two score. Burry will enter Tuesday's round sitting tied for 13th with a two-round score of 149 (+5).

Sophomore Brian Hanson replicated his day one performance with another 75 (+3) while playing in the A-Team's lineup. The sophomore was dialed in during his opening 14 holes, tapping in 12 pars, a birdy and Emory's lone eagle of the tournament on the 550-yard Par 5 at hole 12. However, a triple bogey on hole 15 brought him back to even before bogeying the 17th and double bogeying the 18th, a hole that has given players trouble all weekend. Despite his struggles during the homestretch of his round, Hanson will head to Tuesday tied for 15th at 150 (+6).

Junior Josh Qian, also playing alongside the A-Team lineup, improved his score by four strokes on Monday. The junior carded a 75 (+3) after an up-and-down day that saw him knock in four birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey. Qian leads all Emory golfers in birdies over two rounds with seven. He heads to the final round tied for 28th with a two-round score of 154 (+10).

Senior Michael Rosenbloom rounded out the A-Team's scores, turning in his second-consecutive 78 (+6). He knocked in 14 pars on Monday, bringing his total to 27 which is the second most of any player at the tournament. He was yet another Eagle that had a strong front nine, with eight pars and just one bogey. However, a triple bogey on hole 15, a 400-yard Par-4 that has produced a higher score than any other hole this tournament, hurt his final score. After two rounds, the senior will head into the final day tied for 33rd at 156 (+12).

Playing alongside the B-Team, freshman Kevin Mu also turned in his second-straight 78 (+6). He too was rather consistent, but a triple-bogey on hole 17 diminished his score. He sees himself tied for 33rd alongside Rosenbloom with a two-round score of 156 (+12).

Senior Logan Lowery shot a 78 (+6) as well, improving upon his 79 on Sunday. Lowery was very solid on Monday, knocking in four birdies. However, a few holes caught Lowery up to hurt his final score. He is in 41st place at 157 (+13) heading into Tuesday.

Rounding out the scores for Emory was freshman Brady Lagendyk, who shot the Eagles' fourth 78 (+6) of the afternoon. Lagendyk was yet another Eagle who fell victim to having one tough hole as he triple bogeyed the first hole. Otherwise, Lagendyk shot just three over par with 11 pars and two birdies. He is tied for 43rd with a 159 (+15) after 36 holes.

The tournament will conclude tomorrow, starting at 8:00 AM with a shotgun start.
