#2 Men’s Golf Wins Discover Dekalb Invitational; Burry and Mu Named to All-Tournament Team

After battling a three-hour rain delay, the No. 2 ranked Emory men's golf team shot a 304 (+16) on Sunday to secure a team victory at the Discover Dekalb Invitational with a three-round score of 900 (+36). However, the Eagles had to win a tiebreaker to secure the hardware as they were knotted up with #8 Washington and Lee after 54 holes. The tiebreaker was decided based on which team had the best cumulative tally from the teams' dropped score from each round. After adding up the scores, Emory held a four-stroke edge and took the win.

The Eagles' A-Team lineup was dominant on Par 4s, boasting a score 16 strokes better than the next closest team. Junior Michael Burry and freshman Kevin Mu both had impressive weekends and were named to the event's All-Tournament Team for their efforts.

Emory fielded a B-Team lineup as well, as it finished in sixth with a score of 924 (+60). The tournament was played at Cherokee Run Golf Club's Par-72, 6,905-yard course in Conyers, Georgia.

Playing for the A-Team, Burry finished his final round with a 77 (+5), knocking in two birdies mixed with five bogeys and a double bogey. The junior entered the final hole of the day tied for first on the individual leaderboard. However, a shot out of bounds on the 18th hole saw him finish tied for second with a 222 (+6). He finished his tournament with eight birdies, an eagle and 31 pars.

Mu had his best round of the spring season, shooting a 225 while playing alongside the A-Team lineup. The rookie shot a 75 (+3) in all three rounds to finish with a 225 (+9) and in fourth place.

Junior Josh Qian finished strong, carding a 74 (+2) in his final round, the best of any player on the A-Team on Sunday. The junior knocked in four birdies over his round. Qian finished tied for sixth with a 227 (+11).

Seniors Jackson Klutznick and Michael Rosenbloom finished their tournaments both shooting a 235 (+19) to finish tied for 27th. Klutznick shot an 81 (+9) and Rosenbloom turned in a 79 (+7) on Sunday. Rounding out the A-Team's scores was sophomore Brian Hanson, finishing with a 78 (+6) to bring his total to 241 (+25) and tied for 41st.

The Emory B-Team's sixth place finish was led by freshman Brady Lagendyk, who finished his three rounds with a 227 (+11) and tied for sixth place. Lagendyk finished his tournament shooting a 77 (+5) on Sunday, tallying 13 pars in his final round. He finished his event with 39 pars, the most of any player at the tournament. This was the rookie's best three-round score of his career, besting his previous best by seven strokes.

Senior Logan Lowery was close behind, finishing with a 229 (+13) after carding a 77 (+5) on Sunday. Lowery knocked in three birdies and eight pars on the day.

Playing in just his second tournament of the year this weekend, junior Prayaag Oruganti had a strong showing as well. The junior stayed out of trouble for the most part, picking up 12 pars with one birdy, four bogeys and a double bogey on Sunday. He carded a 77 (+5) to finish at 232 (+16) and tied for 17th.

Rounding out the Eagles' performances was sophomore Parker Shimp with a 237 (+21) and freshman Dustin Miller with a 240 (+24).

The Eagles will now look to carry the momentum into the NCAA Championships in a few weeks. The event will start on Tuesday, May 14th and conclude on Friday, May 17th. The tournament will be held at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
