2004-05 Athletes Of The Week

(Feb. 28) Chase Fawsett went out on top as he led all scorers in last weekend's 27 point victory over Case Western Reserve University (OH), 102-75. In his final game as an Emory Eagle, Fawsett tied his career-high in points with 35, shooting 14-for-21 from the field and five-for-seven from the line. His 35 points are the most points scored in a home finale, season finale, and career finale. On the season, Fawsett averaged 18.7 points per game, a single-season invidual career best, and scored 467 points on the season, also a single-season individual career best. Fawsett played more minutes (876), shot better from behind the arc (40 percent), grabbed more rebounds (189), averaged more rebounds per game (7.6), dished out more assists (35), and had more steals (32) than any previous season. Fawsett ends his career at Emory University, second all-time with career points (1595), third all time with a 16.1 points per game average, and third all time in rebounds with 699. Fawsett helped the Eagles to a 15-10 record this season, their best record since the 1989-90 season when they went 25-4.


(Feb. 21) Emory University Jeff Hall scored 27 points last weekend in two conference games. Against New York University, Hall scored a team-high 15 points. At Brandeis University (MA) Hall dropped 12 points. In his first season as a full-time starter, Hall has more points (431) and rebounds (114) in this season than his previous two combined. Hall is averaging 18 points a game for the Eagles, while shooting 46.8 percent from beyond the arc; a percentage which ranks him fourth in three-point field-goal percentage in NCAA Division III men's basketball. Hall ranks ninth in NCAA Division III men's basketball in three-point field goals per game with 3.8.



(Feb. 14) Chase Fawsett scored 47 points and snatched 23 rebounds in two conference wins last weekend. Fawsett had game-highs in points and rebounds in a 16-point victory over Washington University (MO). Fawsett shot 9-of-14 from the field en route to 24 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, a season-high. Fawsett scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a 15-point victory over the University of Chicago. This is the 10th time this season that Fawsett has scored over 20 points in a game; eight of the ten games being victories. Fawsett, averaging a team-high 19 points a game, eclipsed the 1,500 career point mark; the second player in Emory history to do so (Tim Garrett holds the record for career points with 1,875).



(Feb. 7) Chase Fawsett scored 41 points, shooting 17-of-30 from the field, over two conference games last weekend. Fawsett dropped a team-high 26 points, grabbed eight rebounds and snatched three steals at Carnegie Mellon University (PA). At first place University of Rochester (NY), Fawsett shot 70 percent from the field en route to a team-high 15 points. Over the two games Fawsett shot 56.6 percent from the line. The senior 's current career field goal percentage is 55.7, which puts him on pace to be second all-time in school history in field goal percentage.



(Jan. 31) Emory University's Spiros Ferderigos shot 13-for-16 from the free throw line last weekend en route to 26 points combined in two University Athletic Association games. Emory's lone starting freshman scored 11 points, shooting 9-for-11 from the free throw line, in an 88-85 win over Carnegie Mellon University (PA). He also grabbed seven rebounds, dished out five assists, and had three steals. Ferderigos dropped 15 points, snatched five rebounds, and had three assists against University of Rochester (NY). Through 17 games, Ferderigos averages 12.2 points per game which puts him on pace to be the third-highest scoring freshman in school history. He is shooting a team-high 85 percent from the line and grabbing 4.8 rebounds per game, second best on the team.


(Jan. 24) Chase Fawsett scored 50 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in two University Athletic Association games last week. He recorded his fifth "double double" of the season against Brandeis University (Mass.) and was one rebound shy of his sixth in a win over New York University. Fawsett dropped 26 points and snatched 11 rebounds in the game against Brandeis, both game-highs. In the win over New York University, Fawsett scored over twenty points for the sixth time this season with 24, going five-of-six from the free-throw line, and grabbed nine rebounds. In conference play, Fawsett averages a "double double" with 20.4 points per game, and 10.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 57.7 percent from the field. Fawsett leads the team in rebounds per game with 8.1 and is second on the team in scoring with 18.2 points per game. The senior now has 1,379 points and 624 rebounds over his career, the third-most for each in school history.


(Jan. 17) Rashawn Allen recorded his first "double double" of the season last week. Allen scored a game-high 17 points and collected a season-best 11 rebounds against Chicago (IL). Over the course of two games, Allen had 33 points, 17 rebounds, 10 assists and six steals. For the season, the senior has a team-leading 19 steals, giving 142 over his career, the fifth-most in school history. Allen is averaging 16.7 points per game this season, with 4.2 rebounds per game. The Eagles are 8-4 this season.


(Jan. 10) Rashawn Allen recorded back-to-back 20-point games for Emory University last week. The senior guard scored 23 points against LaGrange (Ga.) and 22 against Case Western Reserve (Ohio). These were the third and fourth 20-point games for Allen this season. He had two 20-point games all of last season. Allen was 12 of 24 (.500) from the field, six of 14 (.429) from three-point territory, and 15 of 18 (.833) at the free-throw line. For the week, Allen played 77 of a possible 80 minutes combined.


(Jan. 3) Jeff Hall of Emory University was named to the all-tournament team at the Tampa Bay Shootout in Tampa, Fla. In the tournament, Hall tallied 48 points and 13 rebounds in two games. He opened with a career-high 26 points against DePauw (Ind.). Then he followed up with 22 points against Babson (Mass.). The junior guard has reached the 20-point plateau in three consecutive games and five times in eight games this season. Prior to this season, Hall's career high for a single game was 15 points.


(Dec. 6) Rashawn Allen scored 40 points in two games last week for Emory University, off to its third-best start in school history. Allen scored 25 points and dished out eight assists in a win aganst Oglethorpe (Ga.). That was the second time this season he has tallied 25 points and the second time he has amassed eight assists. The senior point guard added 15 points, four assists, and four steals against Maryville (Tenn.). This is the fourth time in school history that Emory has won at least five of its first six games.


(Nov. 29) Chase Fawsett of Emory University scored 42 points and and grabbed 19 rebounds in two games last week for the unbeaten Eagles. Fawsett tallied a career-high 35 points in a win against Washington & Lee University (Va.). Fawsett sank 14 of 20 field goal attempts and seven of eight free throws. He surpassed his previous high of 31 points set against Brandeis (Mass.) on Feb. 6 of last season. His 35 points is the fourth highest ever in a game by an Eagle, four shy of the school record. Fawsett, a senior center, also pulled down 12 rebounds for his "double double" of the season. It is the 18th "double double" of his career, tying him for third most in school history, one shy of second place. Fawsett added seven points and seven rebounds in a win at Lynchburg College (Va.). After the weekend, he has moved into third place on the school's all-time list for career points and fourth in career rebounds.


(Nov. 22) Chase Fawsett scored 40 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in two victories for Emory University, including an upset of a national top-25 team. Fawsett tallied 23 points and nine rebounds in a win against Maryville (Tenn.), ranked No. 22 in the nation by D3hoops.com. The senior center was 9-for-16 from the field. The day before, Fawsett scored 17 points with seven rebounds in a season opening win against LaGrange (Ga.). He was 7-for-13 from the field in that game. For the weekend, Fawsett shot 55.2 percent from the field. He already went over 1,000 career points last season.
