Athletes Of The Week

(Feb. 27) Senior Jeff Hall finished his Emory career Saturday against Case Western Reserve University with a team-leading 18 points, including four three pointers.  He finished the season as the team's leading scorer at 19.3 points per game, while fighting through an injury midway through the season.  He also finished with 52 three point field goals for the season.  The senior finishes a remarkable career as the team leader in points per game and three-point field goal percentage.  His last game's performance moves him up to ninth on the all-time Eagle scoring list with 984 points, two ahead of Robert Spivey (2000-04).  Hall finishes second in three-pointers made (182) and three-point field goal percentage (41.6%), and sixth in free-throw percentage (79.7%).


(Feb. 20) Senior Jeff Hall led the Emory men's basketball team to two wins this past weekend in UAA action. On Friday he led the team to an 88-74 victory over 20th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University. Hall scored 27 points, including four three pointers. He also added five rebounds and three assists, while playing all 40 minutes. On Sunday against Rochester, he finished with 13 points in a 78-66 victory. For the season, Hall leads the team in scoring at 19.3 points per game. He has also made 48 three pointers this season, which is second-most on the team.


(Feb.13) Sophomore Spiros Ferderigos broke the all-time single game scoring record for Emory University on Sunday, netting 45 points against Washington University. For the day he was 14-of-24 shooting that included 5-of-9 from beyond the arc and a perfect 12-of-12 from the free throw line.  He also added nine rebounds, four assists and two steals.  Ferderigos broke the old record set by Terry Gorsuch in 1989 with 39 points.  On Friday he finished with 19 points against the University of Chicago.  For the season he is second on the team in scoring with 18.6 ppg and leads the team in rebounds with 6.1 per game.  He is also the team leader in assists with 70 and steals with 51.


(Feb. 6) Sophomore guard Spiros Ferderigos led the Eagles to a victory over NYU on Sunday, scoring 23 points and grabbing nine rebounds.  He was 8-of-10 from the floor, including a perfect 2-of-2 from three point range.  He also had five steals and three assists.  Against Brandeis University on Friday he led the team in scoring and rebounding with 15 and 6, respectively.  For the season, Ferderigos is averaging 17.3 points per game and a team-leading six rebounds.  His 17.3 scoring average stands for fourth-best in the UAA.


(Jan. 30) Junior Eric Barvin scored a career-high 24 points Sunday versus Brandeis.  Barvin was 10-of-18 from the floor, including 1-of-2 from three point range.  He also hit 3-of-4 free throws, while adding five rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot.  Against NYU Friday he scored six points, while grabbing two rebounds, a steal and a block.  For the season he is averaging 9.3 points per game and 6.2 rebounds.  His 6.2 rebounds lead the team.


(Jan. 23) Sophomore guard Spiros Ferderigos averaged 17 points per game this past weekend to lead the Emory men's basketball team.  Ferderigos scored 21 points against No. 11 Carnegie Mellon, while also recording six assists, four defensive rebounds and four steals.  Against Rochester he was the squad's second leading scorer with 13, while also collecting two rebounds, steals and assists.  For the season he is the team's second leading scorer at 16.8 points per game, as well as second on the team with 6.1 rebounds per game.  He leads the team with 55 assists and 35 steals.  His 16.8 points per game ranks third in UAA scoring.


(Jan. 16) Sophomore guard Spiros Ferderigos averaged 19.5 points per game for the Eagles this past weekend.  Against Washington, Ferderigos scored 18 points, while also dishing out three assists and recording two steals.  Against, Chicago, he led the team in scoring with 21 points on 7-for-12 shooting.  For the season he is second on the team in scoring with 16.8 points per game.  He is also second on the team in rebounds with 6.5, while leading the team in assists with 47 and steals with 29.


(Dec. 12) Senior co-captain Jeff Hall averaged 20 points this past week as the Eagles went 1-1.  Against the University of the South, Hall scored a game-high 28 points to lead Emory to a 111-106 overtime victory.  Against the Tigers, Hall finished 9 of 18 from the field and 7 of 13 from 3-point range.  This marked his sixth game of the season of scoring 20 points or more.  Against Oglethorpe University he finished with a double-double, consisting of 12 points and 10 rebounds.  For the season he leads the team in scoring with an average of 21 points per game.


(Dec. 5) Sophomore guard Spiros Ferderigos turned in a solid performance this past week to help the Emory men's basketball team win two of three.  Against the University of the South, Ferderigos finished with a career-high 27 points that included 15 of 18 from the free throw line.  The 15 free throws breaks the old record of 14 set by Tom Bolster in 1996.  For the game he also had eight assists.  Against Maryville College he also finished in double figures with 16 points, six rebounds and five assists.  The final game of the week against LaGrange College had him with nine points and seven rebounds.  For the season he is averaging 14.9 points per game and 6.1 rebounds.  He also leads the team in assists with 22.


(Nov. 28) Junior guard Shawn Bailey helped lead the Eagles to a 1-1 record this past week.  Against Oglethorpe University Bailey finished with 21 points on 7 of 12 shooting and 7 of 9 from the free throw line.  He also had six rebounds.  The 21 points was one point shy of a career high he set during Emory's second game of the season against LaGrange when he had 22.  In the Eagles' home opener against Washington & Lee University he finished with 10 points, while recording a team-high seven rebounds.  He stands second on the team in scoring with 15.3 points per game.


(Nov. 21) Senior Jeff Hall led the Emory men's basketball team to a 1-1 record this past weekend at the Southern Collegiate Tip-Off Classic.  Through two games he is averaging 20 points, four rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.5 assists.  Against Maryville College (Tenn.) Hall poured in 30 points on 7 of 17 shooting that included 5 of 11 from 3-point range.  He was also 11 of 14 from the free throw line.  For the game he also had four rebounds, two assists and two steals.  The Eagles returned to action Saturday with a 72-59 victory over LaGrange College (Ga.) to even the record at 1-1.  Hall finished that game with 10 points, as well as four rebounds, one assist and one steal.
