Athletes Of The Week

Feb. 26) -- Emory junior Spiros Ferderigos turned in a huge game against Case Western University on Saturday (Feb. 24), posting a season-high 35 points (second-highest career total) in an 84-83 overtime loss.  Ferderigos knocked down a season-high 11-off-22 from the floor and 12-of-14 from the foul line en route to his 20th double-figure scoring performance of the year and ninth of 20 or more points.  Ferderigos' 12 charity tosses marked the fifth time this year that he finished a game with 10 or more free throws in a game.

After scoring 12 points in the first half, Ferderigos notched 14 points in the second half before registering all nine of Emory's overtime points.

's seasonal chart while his 128 free throws place him second on the Eagles' seasonal ladder.  His 85.3 percent mark from the charity stripe (128-of-150) is good for seventh place on the school's seasonal listing.


(Feb. 19) -- Emory junior Spiros Ferderigos played two solid all-around games over the weekend (Feb. 16 & 18), averaging 23.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals in contests vs. Brandeis and New York University.

Against Brandeis, Ferderigos notched a team-high 19 points, 15 coming in the second half, five rebounds, a team-high five assists and three steals.

He followed that performance with a game-high 27 points, tying his second-highest total of the season, a team-best five assists and five boards vs. NYU. He knocked down seven-of-14 from the floor, including four-of-seven from beyond the arc, while converting all nine of his free throw attempts.

All totaled, Spiros hit 13-of-27 from the floor (48.1 percent), seven-of-15 from beyond the arc (46.7 percent) and all 13 of his free throw opportunities. Ferderigos has scored in double figures in his last 14 outings and has produced eight contests of 20 or more points.


(Feb. 12) -- Emory senior Adrian Sosa averaged 16.0 points and 3.0 assists in three Eagles' contests last week.

Sosa tied for the team lead in scoring with 15 points, while registering five rebounds and three assists, at Oglethorpe (Feb. 6). He then registered a team-high 18 points, hitting seven-of-14 from the floor, including thee-of-six from three-point range, at No. 11 Washington University on Friday (Feb. 9).

Sosa closed out the week with a 15-point performance at Chicago, sinking six-of-12 from the field including three-of-five from beyond the arc. He also shared for team honors with four assists.

In the three games, Sosa connected on 18-of-40 from the floor (45%) and eight-of-20 from three-point range (40%). Adrian has scored in double figures in 18 games this season and his team-leading 54 treys rank him ninth on the school's seasonal list.


(Feb. 5) -- Emory senior Barry Corrado put together back-to-back double-figure scoring games and was the squad's top rebounder this past weekend in helping the Eagles to a split of a pair of UAA games. The 6-foot-7 Corrado chalked up 12 points, a team-high seven rebounds and three blocked shots against the University of Rochester on Friday (Feb. 2) before recording his first career double-double with 14 points, along with a career-best 11 rebounds, in a 94-83 triumph over Carnegie Mellon on Sunday (Feb. 4).

For the weekend, Corrado averaged 13.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocked shots per game. He shot 52.6 percent from the floor (10-of-19). Barry has scored in double figures in three of his last four games and in four during the season.


(Jan. 29) -- Emory junior Spiros Ferderigos averaged 15 points, 10 rebounds and 7.5 assists in a pair of UAA road games last weekend. In a game vs. Carnegie Mellon (Jan. 26), Ferderigos chalked up 14 points, a career-high 14 rebounds and eight assists. It represented his first double-double of the year and third of his career. In addition, he became the ninth player in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark in a career.

He followed the performance by registering team highs in points (16), rebounds (6) and assists (7) in game at Rochester (Jan. 28).


(Jan. 23) -- Emory junior Spiros Ferderigos recorded 33 points, 11 rebounds and four assists last week in a pair of UAA road contests.  Against New York University (Jan. 19), Ferderigos totaled a game-high 22 points while his seven rebounds was second high on the team. Against Brandeis University (Jan. 21), Ferderigos compiled 11 points, second high on the team, and contributed four rebounds and two assists.   He leads the team in both scoring (17.4 ppg) and assists (4.2 apg) and is second on the squad in rebounding (5.6 rpg). Heading into next weekend's game at Carnegie Mellon (Jan. 26) and Rochester (Jan. 28), Ferederigos has 999 career points to his credit and is just one point shy of becoming the ninth player in school history to the 1,000-point plateau.


(Jan. 15) -- Emory junior Spiros Ferderigos totaled 40 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists last week in a pair of UAA contests.  Against No. 7-ranked Chicago (Jan. 12), Ferderigos totaled a game-high 27 points, hitting seven-of-12 from the floor, including one-of-three from three-point range, and 12-of-13 from the foul line.  In addition, he paced the cub with seven rebounds and doled out a team-high four assists.  Against Washington University (Jan. 14), Ferderigos totaled 13 points, second high on the team, and grabbed eight rebounds and dished out a team-high six assists.  All totaled, he shot 50 percent from the floor (11-of-22) in the two games and 88.9 percent (16-of-18) from the foul line.  He leads the team in both scoring (17.5 ppg) and assists (4.5 apg) and is second on the squad in rebounding (5.6 rpg).


(Jan. 7) -- Emory University junior Spiros Ferderigos turned in a solid all-around game this past Saturday (Jan. 6) in helping the Eagles to a 76-67 win at Case in the squad's UAA opener.  Ferderigos registered a game-high 25 points, hitting eight-of-14 from the field, including three-of-seven from beyond the arc, and all six of his free throw opportunities.  In addition, the 6-foot-1 vet finished with six rebounds (second high on the team), five assists and tied his career high with a team-best five steals.  With Emory holding a 60-59 lead with 3:39 on the clock, Ferderigos nailed a three-pointer, came up with a steal and sank a pair of free throws in a 31-second span that increased Emory's advantage to 65-59 with 2:51 remaining.  It was his sixth double-figure scoring performance in nine games this year and fourth of 20 or more points. Ferderigos increased his career total to 926 points and moved into 11th place on the school's all-time scoring list moving past Karel Gless' (1999-2003) mark of 925 points.


(Jan. 1) -- Emory University senior center Eric Barvin helped the Eagles to a split of two games this past weekend at the Washington & Lee Tournament.  In a 62-59 win over Hood, the 6-foot-8 Barvin finished with 11 points, second high on the squad, while pulling down a team-best seven rebounds.  In a 69-57 setback to host Washington & Lee in the championship game, Barvin posted 11 points, hitting five-of-eight from the floor, and one-of-two from the charity stripe, and paced all players with nine rebounds and recorded a pair of blocked shots.  In the two games, Barvin sank 10-of-20 from the floor, averaged 8.0 rebounds, and finished with three blocked shots. 


(Dec. 11) -- Emory University senior guard Shawn Bailey aided the Eagles to a split of two games last week. In a 91-62 win at Sewanee (Dec. 6), the 6-foot-2 Bailey sank eight-of-12 from the field and two-of-three from the foul line en route to a team-high 18 points. Bailey also came up with four rebounds (second high on the club) and one steal. In a loss at Maryville College (Dec. 9), Bailey played a team-high 33 minutes and paced the team in rebounding with five boards. All totaled, Bailey averaged 11.5 points and shot 55.6 percent from the floor (10-of-18). Through eight games, Bailey is averaging 9.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest.



(Dec. 5) -- Emory University senior guard Adrian Sosa was named UAA Co-Player of the Week after totaling 60 points in three games last week and helping the Eagles to a 2-1 mark in those contests. Sosa was the team's second-high scorer with 14 points in a 77-73 triumph against Oglethorpe (Nov. 29). The next evening, Emory posted a 78-61 win at the University of the South with Sosa registering 28 points, hitting nine-of-17 from the floor including a career-high tying seven-of-11 from three-point range. In addition, Sosa led the squad with 11 boards, his first career double-double. Sosa closed out the week with a team-best 18 points in a 91-77 overtime loss at LaGrange College on Saturday. All totaled, Sosa shot 48.7 percent from the field (20-of-41), including 48 percent from three-point range (12-of-25).


(Nov. 27) -- Emory University junior guard Dan Smith came off the bench and gave the Eagles a huge boost in helping the club to a pair of wins.  In a 96-93 overtime triumph over LaGrange College, the 6-foot Smith played 20 minutes and finished with 18 points, sinking five-of-seven from the floor, including four-of-five from three point range, and four-of-five from the foul line.  With Emory trailing, 57-48, with 12:40 left, Smith knocked down three treys that keyed a 19-5 scoring outburst that gave Emory a 67-62 advantage with 7:00 left.  In the overtime, Smith scored seven points, hitting a trey and all four of his free throw attempts.

In a 93-82 triumph over No. 23 (d3hoops.com)-ranked Maryville, he logged 16 minutes of action and finished with 17 points, converting six-of-eight from the floor, including three-of-four from beyond the arc, and both of his free throw attempts.  Smith scored 10 second-half points over the last 13:48 of the game in helping the Eagles rally from a seven-point second-half deficit.

All totaled, Smith averaged 17.5 points and 18.0 minutes in the two games.  He shot 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the floor, including 77.8 percent (7-of-9) from three-point range.


(Nov. 20) -- Senior Adrian Sosa totaled a career-high 22 points in Emory's season-opening game against Mercer University. Sosa was especially dangerous from three-point range as he knocked down a career-best five-of-14 from beyond the arc. In addition to his point total, the 6-foot guard dished out four assists and registered one steal. Emory, 0-1 on the year, makes its home debut on Saturday, Nov. 25, against LaGrange College at 3:00 p.m.
