Athletes Of The Week

(Mar. 3) - Playing in his final collegiate game, senior Spiros Ferderigos led the Eagles in scoring with 29 points while contributing five assists and four steals in a 96-93 loss to Case Western. 

Spiros scored 23 second-half points en route to his 22nd double-figure scoring game of the year and ninth of 20 or more points.  He hit a season-high 11-of-17 from the floor and five-of-six from the foul line. He closed out the season by leading the squad in scoring with an 18.1 points per game average and his 453 points rank fifth on the school's all-time seasonal ladder.  Career-wise, he finished with 1,630 points, good for the No. 2 spot on Emory's career ladder.  In addition, his four steals in the Case Western game, enabled him to move into the No. 1 spot on the school's ladder in that category with 201.  He recorded 51 thefts during the campaign, tying for seventh on Emory's seasonal listing.


(Feb. 25) - Senior Spiros Ferderigos led the Eagles in scoring in a pair of UAA road contests and in the process moved into the No. 2 position on the school's all-time scoring list.

In games vs. Carnegie Mellon and No. 14-ranked Rochester, Ferderigos averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists. He connected on 51.7 percent of his field goal attempts (15-of-29), including 53.8 percent from three-point range (7-of-13), and converted all three of his free throw opportunities.

He finished the Carnegie Mellon game with 22 points, his eighth outing of 20 or more points this season, sinking a season-high tying nine-of-19 from field including a season-best four-of-six from three-point range. He followed that performance with a team-leading 18 points at Rochester, knocking down six-of-12 from the floor including three-of-seven from three-point range. Against the Yellowjackets, he moved into second place on the school's all-time list in scoring with 1,604 points, passing Chase Fawsett's (2001-05) total of 1,591.


(Feb. 18) - Playing in his final two home games, senior Spiros Ferderigos posted back-to-back double doubles in contests against the University of Chicago and No. 7-ranked Washington University. 

Against Chicago, Ferderigos totaled 22 points, second high on the team, grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and registered four steals, his 14th outing of two or more thefts this year.  Against the No. 7-ranked Bears, he notched a team-high 17 points, the 13th time he had paced the team in point production this season, and tied teammate Anthony Fernandez with a game-high 12 rebounds.  It represented his fifth double-double of the campaign and eighth of his career.   In the two games, he sank 13 field goals and went 12-of-14 from the foul line. 

Entering the final three games of the year, Ferderigos has 1,561 career points and holds down the No. 3 spot on the school's all-time list. He is 31 points from moving past the current No. 2 mark of 1,591 points held by Chase Fawsett (2001-05).


(Feb. 11) - Junior Brian Giometti came off the bench and scored 12 points in games against No. 10 Brandeis University and New York University. 

In a 90-85 setback to Brandeis, Giometti hit four-of-eight from the floor, including two-of-four from three-point range in 29 minutes of action.  In a 76-69 loss at NYU, he nailed four-of-six from beyond the arc in recording his 10th double-figure scoring performance of the season. 

In the two games, he converted eight-of-14 from the floor (57.1%) including six-of-10 from three-point range.


(Jan. 28) - Sophomore Anthony Fernandez came up with big performances, posting back-to-back career-high scoring efforts, in helping the Eagles to a pair of UAA wins. 

In an 81-76 triumph over No. 1-ranked Rochester, the 6-foot-3 Fernandez registered a then-career high 20 points (second high on the squad), hitting nine-of-13 from the field and two-of-three from the foul line.  In addition, he finished with two blocks and a pair of steals.  He then followed that effort by pacing the team in scoring with a career-best 23 points, while also snaring a team-leading eight rebounds, in an 89-85 come-from-behind victory against Carnegie Mellon. He converted nine-of-19 from the floor and five-of-six from the line en route to his 10th double-figure scoring game of the season. 

Over the course of the two games, he averaged 21.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and also shot 56.3 percent (18-of-32) from the floor and 77.8 percent from the foul line (7-of-9).

Through games played Jan. 27, Anthony is No. 2 on the team and 12th among UAA players in scoring (13.5 ppg).


(Jan. 21) - Senior Spiros Ferderigos averaged 16.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in a pair of UAA road games last weekend.  Ferderigos was the team's second-high scorer against Washington University, totaling 17 points while coming up with a pair of assists.  He went six-of-10 from the floor, including two-of-three from three-point range, and 3-of-3 from the foul line.  Against the Maroons of Chicago, he was the squad's second-leading point producer with 16 points, hitting five-of-nine from the floor and five-of-five from the charity stripe.  In the two games, he converted 57.8 percent from the floor (11-of-19), 75 percent from three-point range (3-of-4) and 100 percent from the foul line (8-of-8).

Ferderigos has scored in double figures in 10 straight and in a total of 13 games and has either led or shared for the team's lead in scoring in nine contests. Through 14 games, he paces the club in both scoring (18.1 ppg) and steals (2.35 spg). He has 11 outings of two or more steals this season.  Career-wise, he cracked the 1,400 point plateau and now has registered 1,430 points, good for fourth place on the school's all-time ladder.  In addition, he is No. 2 at Emory in career steals (183) and is close to reaching 500 rebounds with 493 under his belt, good for 10th place on the Eagles' career ladder.


(Jan. 14) - Senior Spiros Ferderigos came up with his second straight and third double-double of the season (sixth of his career) last Saturday as he totaled a team-high tying 19 points along with a team-best 13 rebounds in a 99-92 triumph against Case Western Reserve University. 

In addition to those totals, the 6-foot-1 Ferderigos doled out four assists and came up with three steals. He scored six of the team's final eight points of the contest, sinking all six of his free throw opportunities, en route to a 12-of-14 effort from the charity stripe.  Ferderigos has scored in double figures on 11 occasions and has either led or shared for the team's lead in scoring in nine contests.

Through 12 games, he paces the club in both scoring (18.3 ppg) and steals (2.5 spg). He has 10 outings of two or more steals this season.


(Jan. 7) - Senior Spiros Ferderigos averaged 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in helping Emory to a split of two games.  Ferderigos led Emory with 18 points while doling out four assists in an 82-67 home win against Birmingham Southern (Jan. 2) before totaling a team-best 17 points and a career-high tying 14 rebounds in an 82-67 setback to No. 12-ranked Guilford (Jan. 5), his second double-double of the season and fifth of his career. 

Ferderigos has scored in double figures on 10 occasions and has either led or shared for the team's lead in scoring in eight contests. Through 11 games, he paces the club in both scoring (18.3 ppg) and steals (2.5 spg).


(Dec. 17) - Senior Spiros Ferderigos paced the Eagles with a season-high 32 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists in a 106-89 win over Oglethorpe on Saturday (Dec. 15). Ferderigos sank eight-of-14 from the floor, including three-of-four from three-point range, and 13-of-16 from the foul line en route to his fourth career contest of 30 or more points.

Ferderigos came up with 20 points during the second half of play in helping the squad to its fifth straight win, the longest streak for an Emory team since the 2004-05 squad opened that season with five straight triumphs.

In addition to those impressive totals, Ferderigos chalked up team highs in both blocks (3) and steals (2). Through nine games, the 6-foot-1 Ferderigos paces the team in both scoring (18.4 ppg) and steals (2.3).


(Dec. 10) - Senior Spiros Ferderigos either led or shared for the team's scoring lead in each of two Emory wins last week, averaging 17.5 points in the process. 

In an 89-52 triumph at Oglethorpe, Ferderigos sank six-of-10 from the floor, including a pair of three-point field goal attempts, and three-of-four from the charity stripe en route to 17 points.  In addition to his point production, he dished out a team-high seven assists and was second on the squad with six boards.   He followed that performance by scoring all of his team-high tying 18 points in the second half in helping the Eagles to a 100-89 shootout win against Maryville College.  He finished that contest by sinking five-of-eight from the floor and all seven of his free throw attempts.  He also chalked up three assists and a team-best three steals.

In the two games, Ferderigos shot 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from the field, 42.8 percent (3-of-7) from three-point range and 91 percent (10-of-11) from the foul line.  He also averaged 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals in the two games.


(Dec. 3) - Senior Spiros Ferderigos scored a team-high 21 points, grabbed eight rebounds and registered four steals in helping Emory to a 92-84 win at Huntingdon College on Saturday (Dec. 1)   The 6-foot-1 Ferderigos scored 15 of his points in the second half and recorded his third outing of 20 or more points this season.  Ferderigos sank four field goal attempts and knocked down 12-of-14 from the foul line, the 11th time in his career that he finished with 10 or more makes from the charity stripe. 

Through six contests, he tops the squad with a 16.5 points and 2.5 steals per-game average.


(Nov. 26) - Senior Seth Kramer led Emory with a career-high 18 points in helping the Eagles to an 89-72 win against LaGrange College at the Maryville College Thanksgiving Classic.

Kramer converted eight-of-12 from the field in registering his first double-figure scoring effort of his Emory career. In the two games, Kramer hit on 10-of-14 from the floor and two-of-two from the charity stripe.


(Nov. 19) - Senior Spiros Ferderigos led Emory in scoring in both games of the Lon Varnell Classic, averaging 21.5 points over the two contests. Ferderigos picked up 22 points and six rebounds against UT-Tyler on Saturday (Nov. 17) before totaling 21 points and six boards against host Sewanee. Ferderigos connected on 60.0 percent of his field goal attempts (15-of-25) and 10-of-14 from the foul line.
