Emory Men's Basketball To Embark On Foreign Tour

The Emory men's basketball program has announced it will travel overseas to Northern Ireland and Ireland, Aug. 11-19, on a foreign tour that will see it play four games against Irish club teams.

The Eagles are slated to play games on Aug. 13, 15, 16 and 17.  August 12, 14 and 18 will be off days for the squad.  Among the cities head coach Jason Zimmerman and his team will visit will be Dublin and Belfast with a trip to the historic and spectacular Cliffs of Moher also on tap.

"We are certainly looking forward to the trip to Northern Ireland and Ireland and the experience that it will provide members of the team both athletically and culturally," said Zimmerman.  "We are grateful for the opportunity to be together for 20 days as a team to practice and compete against some great foreign competition.  This trip will be a spring board for what we hope will be an exciting and successful 2011-12 season while taking another step in making our program better."

Emory finished the 2010-11 campaign with an overall record of 20-5, just the second 20-win campaign in school and the first since 1989-90.  The Eagles compiled an 11-3 won-lost ledger in the University Athletic Association, good for second place.  Emory's win total in league action was the second highest in program history.  The 2011-12 Eagles' squad will welcome back a host a veterans including senior Austin Claunch, a First Team All-UAA selection and NABC Second Team All-South Region member, junior Alex Greven,  a Second Team All-UAA pick last year, sophomore Jake Davis, who garnered UAA Rookie of the Year acclaim while landing on the all-conference second team, and senior Alex Gulotta who brought honorable mention All-UAA kudos after knocking down a league-leading 71 three-point field goals.

The team will begin practice at the Woodruff PE Center on August 1 and practice for 10 days.  The team will depart from Atlanta the afternoon of August 11 and arrive in Dublin Friday morning (Aug. 12).  The Eagles will return to Atlanta on August 19.
