Junior Michael Friedberg helped the No.
5-ranked Eagles to a pair of victories that saw the squad boost
their record to 10-0. The 6-foot-6 Friedberg averaged a
team-leading 21.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game as
Emory defeated Rhodes College on Dec. 29 and Guilford on Dec.
31. He finished the two-game set knocking down 61.9 percent
(13-of-21) of his field tries including 85.7 percent (6-of-7) from
beyond the arc. In an 84-66 decision over the Lynx of Rhodes,
Friedberg topped the team’s scoring effort with 16 points,
hitting five-of-10 from the floor, including both of his
three-point opportunities, and sinking four free throws. He
pulled down five boards, second high on the squad, and blocked
three shots. Against Guilford, he exploded by leading all
players with a career-high 26 points while grabbing a game-best
eight caroms and rejecting three more opponent shot attempts.
He was successful on eight-of-11 from the floor, including
four-of-five from three-point range, en route to his fifth
double-figure scoring performance of the
campaign. Friedberg's three rejections during the 96-84
triumph over Guilford represented his fifth straight outing of two
or more blocked shots. In addition, it enabled him to move
into third place on the school’s all-time list with 92
blocks.
