Emory Men's And Women's Basketball Teams Face NCAA Road Tests

(Mar. 3) -- The Emory men's and women's basketball teams will be hitting the road next weekend in their respective NCAA Division III Tournaments.

The men's team, 20-6 overall, will venture to Spokane, Wash., to tangle with Whitworth in a Saturday (Mar. 9) evening contest that is slated to tip at 10:00 pm (EST).  The Eagles of head coach Jason Zimmerman advanced to the second round of the NCAAs following a decisive 77-56 triumph over Randolph College on Saturday.  Emory is making its first appearance in the postsseason since 1990.    Whitworth, ranked No. 6 nationally, is 25-3 after last night's 75-69 win over Redlands in the first round of the national tournament.  The Pirates are in their seventh straight NCAA tournament and eighth overall.  Whitworth is the regular-season and tournament champion of the Northwest Conference.

The Emory women's squad, ranked 14th nationally, will travel to Williams College (Mass.) where it will clash with Whitman College of the Northwest Conference on Friday (Mar. 8) in a time to be determined.  Head coach Christy Thomaskutty and her charges are riding a six-game winning streak that has upped its record to 24-3, setting a school record for most wins in a season.  The Eagles hosted the first and second rounds of the national tournament and captured a 72-65 decision over Whitworth University on Friday before upending Huntingdon, 88-62, on Saturday.   The Lady Missionaries of Whitman upset No. 13 ranked Lewis & Clark Pioneers, 66 - 57, on Saturday. Whitman brings a 22-5 record into the game.  The winner of the game will play either Ithaca or host Williams on Saturday.
