Emory Men's Basketball Place Four On All-UAA Team

Four members of the NCAA Tournament-bound Emory University men's basketball squad have been selected to the All-University Athletic Association Team.  The all-league picks were chosen by the conference coaches.  The Eagles saw two members of the program earn first-team status while two were chosen as honorable mention selections.

Senior Jake Davis (Cincinnati, OH) headlines the group with his third straight first-team nod while classmate McPherson Moore (Saint Louis, MO) also garnered a first-team bid.  Juniors Michael Florin (Port Washington, NY) and Alex Foster (Portland, OR) were the honorable-mention picks.

The 6-foot-5 Davis closed out the regular as the conference's leading scorer in overall play with a 22.8 points-per-game average with that mark currently good for the No. 1 position on Emory's seasonal chart.  Davis also led all league performers in scoring for conference contests, recording a 22.5 per-game effort. A double-figure scorer in 24 of 25 games, he has produced 15 contests of 20 or more points including five of 30 or more points.  Heading into this weekend's NCAA Tournament action, Davis has notched double digits in the scoring column in 72 of his past 75 outings (90 out of 100 in his career).  In addition to his scoring average, Davis figures prominently in the league with a 10th-place ranking in rebounding (5.7 rpg), a third-place showing in free throw percentage (.876, 156-178), third place in steals (1.6 spg), and 11th place in three-point field goals per game (1.7 tpg).   He has connected on 50 percent or better of his field goal opportunities on 11 occasions this year and has either led or tied for team scoring honors on 14 occasions.  Career-wise, he ranks No. 2 on the school's all-time scoring chart with 1,830 points, trailing only Tim Garrett's 1,875 points.   His 569 points in 2013-14 is the second-highest showing is school annals, 29 points from moving into the No. 1 spot.  Davis becomes just one of four players in program history to have been selected to the All-UAA First Team on three occasions, joining Garrett (1988-89-90), Chase Fawsett (2003-04-05) and Austin Claunch (2010-11-12).

An honorable-mention pick to the All-UAA Team last season, Moore emerged as one of the league's top scoring threats with his 17.4 points-per-game mark in overall play second on the squad and third on the UAA ladder.  The 6-foot-2 guard closed out the year in the No. 2 position among league players in scoring in conference play with an 18.7 per-game mark.   His 51.2 percent effort from the field (154-of-301) topped the team and slotted him ninth on the UAA chart while his team-leading 42.5 percent effort (57-of-134) ranked seventh.  Moore has recorded 23 double-figure scoring games this year and has chalked up 11 outings of 20 or more points.  He will enter Saturday's NCAA Tournament contest with five straight efforts of 20 or more points to his credit.  His 57 three-point field goals ranks 11th on Emory's seasonal list and his 435 points place him 16th seasonally at the school.

Florin brought home his second straight honorable mention nod with his deft play from his point guard spot helping the Eagles average a league-high 84.6 points in overall play with that mark ranking 16th nationally.  Entering postseason play, Florin is No. 2 in the UAA in assists in overall contests with a 5.6 per-game average, good for 22nd among D-III players. He closed out the conference portion of the schedule tied for second in assists (5.4 apg).  Florin holds down the top spot in the UAA and is 11th in the DIII ranks in assist/turnover ratio (2.8).  He has dished out six or more assists 12 times this year and has 10-assists performances against Methodist University and Case Western (Jan. 19).  Finally, his 141 assists are fifth on the school's seasonal chart.

After scoring in double figures just once in his first 11 games of the year, Foster picked up his offensive totals considerably, closing out the regular season with double-digit point production in his last six and in 11 of the last 14 outings.  The 6-foot-7 Foster is 13th on the UAA scoring chart with a 13.3 per-game average in league play and is 15th with a 48.9 percent mark from the floor (64-of-131).  His 92.1 percent performance from the charity stripe (35-of-38) in conference outings is seconds on the UAA list, and he also finds himself seventh in rebounding with a team-high 6.3 per-game mark.  No. 2 on the team in overall rebounding (5.5 rpg), he has led the squad in that category on six occasions.

Emory stands 17-8 overall and finished second in the UAA with a ledger of 9-5.  The Eagles will be making their straight NCAA appearance when they host either Centre College or LaGrange College on Saturday (Mar. 8) starting at 7:00 pm.
