Jair Knight & Ben Pearce Land on All-UAA First Team

Emory University men's basketball sophomores Ben Pearce and Jair Knight were both named to the All-University Athletic Association First Team as announced by the conference office Tuesday morning.

This marks the second straight year both Eagles were honored with All-UAA recognition, as voted on the eight UAA coaches. As freshmen, Pearce earned All-UAA First Team and Rookie of the Year acclaim while Knight was slotted as an Honorable Mention.

This season, the duo paced the Eagles in scoring as Emory finished the season with a 15-10 overall record and a fifth place finish in the UAA with a 6-8 record.

Knight saw his scoring increase in his second season in Blue & Gold, topping Emory at 17.5 points per game while starting all 25 games. Knight finished fourth in the UAA in scoring on the season, was the conference leader with 52 steals and was among the UAA leaders in blocks (6th, 33), made field goals (4th, 159) and minutes per game (3rd, 33.3). During the UAA stretch, Knight upped his scoring to 19.2 PPG across the 14 games and had eight games with 19 points or more, including a career-high 29 points at Case Western Reserve on February 16. The game against the Spartans saw him reach a career-best with five blocks. Knight had at least one steal in 12 conference games, highlighted by four-steal efforts against Rochester (Jan. 6), NYU (Jan. 28) and WashU (Feb. 9). He also notched a career-high in rebounds during the UAA slate, doing so in a 27-point, 12-rebound effort at Rochester in the conference opener.

Pearce makes his second straight appearance on the All-Association First Team after he ended the season fifth in the UAA in scoring at 16.4 PPG. Pearce was one of the top distributors in the conference as well, ranking second in the UAA and 26th in Division III with 5.0 per game. In addition to scoring and passing, Pearce ranked among the UAA leaders in free throw percentage (3rd, 79.3), free throws made (4th, 88), assists/turnover ratio (5th, 1.47) and field goals attempted (5th, 331). In conference play, Pearce averaged 17.6 PPG, 4.2 APG, 3.8 RPG while playing 34.1 minutes per game. He had 10 games with 15 points or more, including a career-high 32 points in the win over WashU on February 9.
