2005 Men's Soccer Season Recap

Emory University was selected for the NCAA Division III national tournament for the second time in three years.  The Eagles finished the season with a 15-4-0 record, tying the second highest win total in school history.

Emory was ranked as high as ninth in the nation after compiling a 10-0-0 record, the second best start in school history.  After losing in the first round of the NCAA tournament, the Eagles finished the season ranked 23rd according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Emory's success was a result of both a successful offense and defense.  The Eagles finished the season 11th in the nation in scoring offense, scoring 3.16 goals per game.  Emory had the ninth-highest shutout percentage in Division III soccer, the 16th-best team goals against average and the 17th-best team save percentage as well.  Emory shut out 14 of its 19 opponents, breaking the previous school record of 11 shutouts in 1995.

Senior Karl Dix led the way for Emory, finishing first in the nation in assists and becoming a second team all-American.  Dix is the 11th all-American in Emory soccer history, and the first since John Symbas in 1999.  Dix was named to the all-region and all-conference first teams for the third consecutive year.  He finished his Emory career with a conference-record 44 assists over three seasons.  Dix led the team in scoring this season with 35 points.
