Eagles Gear Up for a Rematch of Last Year’s NCAA Tournament Contest

Eagles Gear Up for a Rematch of Last Year’s NCAA Tournament Contest

The Emory University men's soccer team will take on their toughest opponent of the season to-date on Saturday, as the Eagles will play host to fourth-ranked Christopher Newport University on Saturday at 4:00 PM.

Saturday's match will feature a live video webcast.  To access the webcast, go to http://www.emoryathletics.com/information/webcasts (RealPlayer required).

The contest will be a rematch of last year's NCAA Round of 16 meeting between the two teams, when the Captains handed the Eagles a 2-0 defeat.  The game is the feature contest of Emory's Homecoming Weekend.

Emory enters the match on a six-game winning streak, following a 4-1 win over Piedmont College on Wednesday night.  The Eagles improved to 6-1-0 overall with the victory, and are 1-1-0 at home this season.  The Captains will be the first nationally-ranked opponent Emory will face this season.

Christopher Newport, ranked fourth by the NSCAA and seventh by D3Soccer.com, enters the match with a 6-1-0 record as well, with their only loss coming against then-top ranked Messiah College.  The Captains are 1-1-0 in road matches this season.

Emory is 3-5-0 all time against Christopher Newport, including last year's tournament loss.

Emory Notes:
During their six-match winning streak, the Eagles have outscored their opponents 19-4, while holding a 105-42 advantage in shots, and a 63-23 advantage in shots on goal... 11 different Emory players have scored goals this season, and 14 different players have scored a point... Emory goalkeeper Trenton Spindler has made every start for the Eagles during their winning streak, recording an 0.39 goals against average during that stretch... After recording just one goal prior to this season, junior captain Jake Graetz leads the team with five goals this year... Junior co-captain Christopher Howie has assisted on six goals during the year, a new career high, including two on game-winning goals.
