Emory University's Trenton Spindler recorded
his third shutout of the season, but the Eagles offense was unable
to put a goal on the board, as Emory tied UAA-rival New York
University 0-0 on Friday night.
The Eagles record moved to 8-3-1 on the season with the tie,
including a 0-2-1 mark in University Athletic Association (UAA)
matches. NYU's record went to 4-6-2 on the season, including
a 0-1-2 mark in conference play.
Spindler needed to make just two saves during the contest to
preserve the shutout, including one in the second overtime
period. The Eagles outshot NYU 13-4 during the match,
including an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Spindler lowered his season goals-against average to 0.71 on the
year with his 110 minutes of scoreless soccer during the day.
The tie was the first regular season tie for the Eagles in almost
five years to the day. Emory's last time came on October
17th, 2004, when they played a 1-1 match against the
University of Rochester. The Eagles' last scoreless regular
season tie was earlier that season against the University of
Chicago on October 2nd. Last season, the Eagles'
tied North Carolina Wesleyan 1-1, during the NCAA Tournament.
Emory will return to action on Sunday, facing Brandeis University
at 11:00 AM at the Woodruff Physical Education Center.
