Emory University's Jake Graetz scored a goal in
the Eagles' season-opening match against Southern Wesleyan
University, but it was not enough as the Eagles dropped a 2-1
decision to the Warriors at the Woodruff P.E. Center.
After a scoreless first half for both squads, Emory fell behind on
a Luis Ramirez goal in the 61st minute of the
match. Graetz's goal would even the match in the
71st minute, as the junior scored with a header off
assists from juniors Christopher Howie and
Michael Scannapieco, following Howie's corner
kick.
However, Rodriguez would notch his second goal of the match in the
75th minute, securing the Warriors' victory.
The Eagles outshot the Warriors 13 to eight, including a
seven-to-two advantage in the first half, and a 10-to-six advantage
in shots on goal.
Sophomore Trenton Spindler played all 90 minutes
in goal for Emory, converting four saves.
The loss drops Emory to 0-1-0 on the season, while Southern
Wesleyan improved to 2-0-0.
