Emory Men’s Soccer Opens Conference Play against Washington U. on Sunday

 

The Emory University men's soccer team will begin its University Athletic Association (UAA) schedule on Sunday, playing host to conference rival Washington University (Mo.) at 11:00 AM.

The Eagles will enter Sunday's contest on a seven-match winning streak, and with a 7-1-0 overall record.  The Eagles, ranked sixth in the South Atlantic Region, are a perfect 7-0-0 against Division III teams this season.  Emory will be looking to defend its 2008 UAA Championship, its first since the 1998 season.  The Eagles were 6-1-0 in conference play last season.

Washington University will enter Sunday's match with an overall record of 5-1-3 this season, including a mark of 2-1-1 in road matches.  The Bears are ranked seventh in the Central Region, and have won three of their last four games.

Last season, Emory defeated Washington 1-0 in St. Louis, MO, outshooting the Bears 17-3 in the contest.  The Eagles are just 7-10-6 all time against the Bears, but won five-straight contests.

Junior Michael Scannapieco scored the game-winning goal during the Eagles' 1-0 win over Covenant College, his first of the season... He became the 12th Eagle to score a goal this season, and the team's sixth-different player to score a game-winning goal... Emory is yet to allow a first-half goal this season, outscoring its opponents 10-0 in the first period of play... The Eagles have gone 6-0-0 in road matches during the season... Emory goalkeeper Trenton Spindler has gone 7-1-0 this season with a 0.56 goals against average, including a 0.33 goals against average during Emory's seven-match winning streak.
