Emory Falls to Washington University in UAA Opener

The Emory University men's soccer team lost its first game to a Division III opponent this season on Sunday afternoon, as the Eagles dropped their University Athletic Association (UAA) opener to Washington University, 2-0.

The Bears got on the board in the first half, as Harry Beddo struck with the game winner in the 13th minute, giving Washington a 1-0 lead.  Washington cemented its lead with a John Hengel goal in the 81st minute, putting the game out of reach for Emory.

Emory falls to 7-2-0 on the season with the loss and to 0-1-0 in conference play, ending the team's seven-game winning streak.  Washington improved to 6-1-3 overall this year with the win.

Emory will return to action on Wednesday at 4:00 PM, as the Eagles will make the trip across town to face Oglethorpe University.

The Bears' first half goal was the first allowed by the Emory defense this season... The Eagles outshot Washington University 13-11 in the contest... Emory goalkeeper Trenton Spindler made seven saves in the loss... Emory was shutout for the first time this season in the contest.
