Emory University sophomore Andrew Natalino and
junior Trenton Spindler were named the Offensive
and Defensive Players of the Week for the University Athletic
Association (UAA), respectively, after their performances during
the 14th-ranked Eagles’ 4-0 victory over Maryville
College.
Natalino recorded the first hat trick by an Eagle in over two years
during game on Friday. He scored his first goal just a minute
and 22 seconds into the contest, placing a one-touch shot into the
back of the net. In the 16th-minute,
midfielder/defender struck with a long shot from outside the box
for his second goal of the contest. Natalino capped off the
hat trick in the 65th minute, scoring his third goal of
the game to give Emory a 4-0 lead. It marked the
34th hat trick in the program’s history and the
first since former Eagle Patrick Carver’s on August
30th, 2008. Natalino leads all Emory scorers with
10 goals this season and 23 points.
Spindler made a season-best nine saves to lead Emory to the
victory. He played all 90 minutes of the contest, facing 18
total shots and turning away all nine that were on goal. He
earned his sixth shutout of the season during the game, improving
to 11-1-2 overall. The goalkeeper also raised his save
percentage to .952, while lowering his goals against average to
0.22, after beginning the week ranked second and fifth in Division
III, respectively, in each category.
It marked the third time each this season that Natalino and
Spindler have earned UAA Athlete of the Week honors. This was
Natalino’s first honor as an offensive player.
Emory, which currently has a record of 12-1-2, will wrap up its
home season this weekend against Rochester on Friday and Case
Western Reserve on Sunday.
