Emory University junior goalkeeper Trenton
Spindler was recognized as the University Athletic
Association’s (UAA) Defensive Athlete of the Week for
men’s soccer, following his shutout performance against
Washington University (Mo.) last Sunday.
Spindler recorded his fourth shutout of the season during the
ninth-ranked Eagles scoreless tie against 13th-ranked
Washington University (Mo.) on Sunday. Spindler played all
110 minutes of the double-overtime game, making five saves during
the contest. He now stands at 8-0-1 on the season, with a
0.12 goals-against average (one goal allowed in over 766
minutes). In addition, he has not allowed a score in his last
660:41 in goal, helping the team to a school-record
eight-consecutive shutouts.
Spindler, who ranks third in Division III with a .973 save
percentage and fourth with a 0.117 goals-against average, has led
the Eagles to a 9-0-1 record this season.
This marks the second time this season that Spindler has been named
the UAA’s Athlete of the Week, and the fourth time in his
career. In addition, an Emory player has now won the
defensive honor for the UAA all five weeks this season.
Spindler and the Eagles will return to action this Saturday,
