Emory University sophomore Andrew Natalino
scored three goals to record the team's first hat trick in over two
years, leading the 18th-ranked Eagles to a 4-0 victory
over Maryville College on Friday at the Woodruff P.E. Center.
Natalino scored his first goal of the contest just a minute and 22
seconds into the game. The play was set up by junior
Nao
Masuda, who passed to freshman Andrew
Jones from the top of the box. Jones, in turn, sent
a pass across the box to Natalino, who placed a one-touch shot past
the diving Maryville goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

It was the eighth goal of the season for Natalino. Masuda
picked up his fourth assist of the campaign on the play, while
Jones, who was making his first collegiate start, notched his
third.
Natalino would strike again in the 16th minute, scoring
on a long shot off a pass from senior Christopher
Howie. The play gave Howie his third helper of the
campaign.
The Eagles would add to their lead in the second half, as junior
Nico
Dalton converted a goal off a header in the
58th minute to notch his second score of the
season. Sophomore David Langton
picked up his fourth assist of the campaign on the play, while
freshman Zach
Brody earned his first collegiate points with an
assist as well.
Natalino would then cap off the hat trick with a goal in the
65th minute off play, capitalizing off a pass from
Michael
Scannapieco for his fourth assist of the
season.
Natalino, who leads all Emory players with ten goals this season,
recorded the first multiple-goal game of his career in the
contest. He also picked up his team-leading fourth
game-winning goal of the season, the tying him for the eighth most
in a single season in Emory history. The sophomore leads all
Emory players this season with 23 points.
It was the first three goal game by an Emory player since former
Eagle Patrick Carver scored a hat trick against Guilford College on
August 30, 2008. Natalino's hat trick was the 34th
in the program's history.
Defensively, junior goalkeeper Trenton Spindler
earned his sixth shutout of the season, making nine saves, a
season-best total and one shy of his career record. Spindler
improved to 11-1-2 on the season with the victory, while lowering
his goals-against average to 0.22 for the campaign. It was
the 11th shutout overall this season for the Emory
defense.
Emory improved to 12-1-2 on the season with the victory, including
an 8-0-0 mark at home and an 11-0-0 record against non-conference
opponents. The Scots dropped to 9-5-1 on the campaign with
the loss.
The Eagles will be back in action next weekend, hosting the
University of Rochester on Friday and Case Western Reserve
University on Sunday, in the team's final two home matches of the
regular season.
