#9 Emory to Open UAA Play at #13 Washington University

Emory University will open its University Athletic Association (UAA) schedule with a clash between two of Division III's best defenses this season, as the ninth-ranked Eagles will travel to St. Louis to play 13th-ranked Washington University on Sunday, October 3rd at 2:30 PM EST.

Emory University Eagles
Emory will enter the game with a 9-0-0 overall record, including a 4-0-0 mark in matches away from the Woodruff P.E. Center.  The Eagles are coming off a 9-0 win last Saturday against Greensboro, the team's highest scoring output in more than nine years.  In that game, the Eagles defense set a program record with its seventh-consecutive shutout, and Kamron Zia, Michael Scannapieco and Dehmeh Smith each scored a pair of goals.  Emory is led by head coach Sonny Travis, who is 53-9-3 in his four seasons with the team.

Washington University (Mo.) Bears
Washington University will enter Sunday's game with a 7-0-2 record, including a 4-0-0 record at home this season.  The Bears have won three-consecutive games, including a 2-1 victory at Wheaton College last Saturday.  The Bears are currently ranked 11th in Division III with a 0.32 goals against average this season, and have recorded shutouts in six of nine games this season.  Washington is led by head coach Joe Clarke, who is 155-74-28 in 14 seasons with the squad.

Matchup History
Emory is 7-11-6 all time against Washington University, but has won five of the last six meetings, and the Eagles have not lost in St. Louis since 1999, going 3-0-1 during the stretch.  Last season, the Eagles suffered a 2-0 loss at home to the Bears.

The Eagles are one of six undefeated and untied teams left in Division III, along with Carnegie Mellon University, Christopher Newport University, Dominican University, Middlebury College, and Swarthmore College… Among those teams, Emory is tied with Dominican and Swartmore with nine victories… Emory began the week as the top-ranked offense in Division III with 37 goals scored, and second with 4.11 goals per game… Emory is also ranked third in Division III with a 0.89 shutout percentage and a 0.975 save percentage, and fourth with a 0.11 goals-against average… Individually, goalkeeper Trenton Spindler is third in the Nation with a .969 save percentage and fourth with a .137 goals-against average, while Zach Samuels is fourth with seven assists, seventh with 0.78 assists per game, and 55th with 15 points… The Eagles have opened the season with a 9-0-0 record for the seventh time in school history… Emory matched a program record for wins in a month with nine in September, previously accomplished by the team in the month of September in 2005, 2006 and 2007, and October 1989 and 1991… Emory has outscored opponents 26-0 in the second half of games this season… The Eagles 26 second half goals are more than all but 23 Division III teams have scored the entire season.
