The 18th-ranked Emory University men's soccer team dropped its season-opening game on Friday, falling to second-ranked Lynchburg College 2-0 at the Roanoke College Invitational in Roanoke, VA.

Lynchburg cemented its lead in the 50th minute, as Luke Moore scored off a Michael Venegas assist.

The Eagles finished the game with an 8-3 advantage in shots, a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal, and were even with Lynchburg, 4-4, in corner kicks.

Senior Zach Samuels and junior Andrew Natalino each took three shots on goal for Emory, two of which were on goal.  Senior goalkeeper Trenton Spindler made one save in the loss.

Emory fell to 0-1-0 on the year, while Lynchburg opened its year with a 1-0-0 record.  The Eagles will wrap-up play at the Roanoke College Invitational tomorrow, facing the host Maroons at 7:30 PM.

Emory Notes
Emory is now 20-9-1 all time in season-opening games… The game marked the first time the Eagles have opened a season on the road since 2003, when Emory defeated Piedmont College 2-1 in Demorest, GA… Emory is 5-6-0 against opponents nationally ranked 10th or higher, and 17-18-3 all-time against top-25 teams... The loss was just the program's second in the month of September during Sonny Travis' five years with the team... Lynchburg (ranked second nationally) was the highest-ranked opponent in the history of the Emory men's soccer program.
