Wong Named UAA Athlete of the Week

Emory University junior Alex Wong was named the University Athletic Association's (UAA) Defensive Athlete of the Week for Men's Soccer, following his performance in goal during the Eagles 1-0 victory in their conference opening game against the University of Chicago on Saturday.

Wong made nine saves in the game, the most by a UAA goalkeeper this season, and the highest number of saves by an Emory goalkeeper over the team's last 11 games, dating back to last season.  The shutout was his third through five starts this season.

Wong, who has allowed a goal in just one of his six appearances this season, lowered his season goals-against average to 0.561, the 31st-best mark in Division III, while raising his save percentage to 0.864, ranking him 38th among D-III keepers.  He improved to 5-1-0 on the season with the victory.

This was the first UAA Athlete of the Week honor of Wong's career.

Wong and the rest of the Eagles, now 5-4-0 and tied for first in the UAA with a 1-0-0 conference record, will return to action on Wednesday, taking on Covenant College at 7:00 PM in Lookout Mountain, GA.
