Emory Men’s Soccer to Face Ninth-Ranked Wash U. in Conference Home Opener

With first-place in the University Athletic Association (UAA) on the line, the Emory University men's soccer team will play host to the ninth-ranked Washington University (Mo.) Bears at the Woodruff Physical Education Center on Sunday at 11:00 AM.

Emory Eagles
The Eagles will enter the game with an overall ledger of 6-4-0 this season, including a mark of 4-2-0 in home games.  Emory matched its season-long winning streak with a thrilling 1-0 double-overtime win at Covenant College on Wednesday night, giving the squad its third-straight victory and its sixth in the last seven games.  The Eagles are led by head coach Sonny Travis, who holds a 62-15-5 record during his five seasons with the team, and a 358-108-42 record during his 25-year career.

Wash U. Bears
Washington currently stands at 9-1-0 during the 2011 campaign, including a 1-0-0 mark in conference play and a 3-1-0 mark in road games.  The Bears entered the week ranked ninth in the NSCAA Division III poll, seventh in the D3Soccer.com poll, and second in the Central Region.  The team is led by senior forward Dylan Roman, who is 96th in Division III with six goals and 144th with 13 points.  In addition, sophomore midfielder Michael Flowers ranks 76th in Division III with four assists and sophomore goalkeeper Jonathan Jebson is 35th with a 0.604 goals-against average. Washington is coached by Joe Clarke, who is 171-76-31 during his 15 years with the team, and 376-150-61 during his 29-year career.

Center.  Last season in St. Louis, the Eagles and the Bears played to a scoreless tie, with the Eagles holding a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal, despite being outshot 16-15 in the game.  Current Emory senior Zach Samuels took a team-high four shots in the game, all of which were on goal.  The Eagles are 5-1-2 against the Bears since the 2003 season.
