Emory Men's Soccer Falls In Double Overtime To No. 9 Washington University

The Emory University men's soccer team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end Sunday afternoon as the Eagles dropped a double-overtime decision to No. 9-ranked Washington University in an University Athletic Association games played at the Woodruff PE Center on the Emory campus.  The Bears upped their overall record to 10-1-0 (2-0 UAA) with a 2-1 verdict over the Eagles who slipped to 6-5 (1-1 UAA).

Providing the heroics for the visitors was senior Kevin Privalle whose golden goal with 6:04 left in the second extra session broke the 1-1 deadlock.  It was Privalle's first marker of the campaign and came when he converted a well-placed crossing pass from senior Patrick McLean.

Emory kept the pressure on the Bears for the majority of the contest and recorded a decided 26-7 advantage in shot attempts.  In addition, the Eagles ended the match with a 7-1 bulge in corner kicks.

Despite holding a commanding 13-2 margin in shot attempts during the opening half of play, Emory found its self trailing by a 1-0 margin with McLean accounting for the Bears' score at the 15:06 mark off a crossing pass from Michael Flowers.   The Eagles had some good scoring opportunities during the opening 45 minutes, one of which came just 6:50 into the game when senior Zach Samuels banged an attempt off the crossbar on a direct kick.

The Eagles' persistence finally paid off at 70:23 when senior Andrew Natalino knotted things up on a penalty kick, his fourth tally of the year.  Emory continued to press matters and with 5:50 left in regulation, Samuels deftly maneuvered  through the Wash U backline and blistered a shot that Bear's keeper Jonathan Jebson managed to get a hand on to bat away, leaving a rebound attempt that was shot wide.  Jebson finished the game with six saves while Emory's Alex Wong totaled a pair of stops.

Emory returns to action next Friday (Oct. 14) when it plays at Case Western Reserve University.
