Eagles Bounce Back with 1-0 Win over Rochester

Eagles Bounce Back with 1-0 Win over Rochester

Emory University sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Goldblum picked up a shutout in his first career start, and junior Alex Scott's first half goal was all the offense the Eagles needed in a 1-0 win at the University of Rochester on Sunday afternoon.

Less than 48 hours removed from allowing six goals in a heartbreaking double-overtime loss, it was a redemptive day for the Eagles defense, which held Rochester to just seven shots, only four of which were on goal.  The shutout was the defense's sixth of the season and second through four University Athletic Association (UAA) games.

The Eagles got on the board early in the contest, taking a 1-0 lead on Scott's second goal of the season.  The goal was set up by a corner kick in the 11th minute taken by David Garofalo, who was able to place the ball on target for Scott. In turn, Scott was able to finish with a header to give Emory the early advantage.

It was the fourth assist of the season for Garofalo, who took over the team lead in the category this season.

Goldblum, who made just his third career appearance and first start on Sunday, converted four saves to keep his season goals-against average at 0.00.  He improved to 1-0-0 on the season with the victory.

The Eagles improved to 7-6-0 on the season with the win, including a 2-2-0 mark in UAA games.  In the process, they handed Rochester its first conference loss of the season, as the Yellowjackets dropped to 2-1-1 in conference play, and to 8-3-1 overall.

Next for Emory will be a week off from conference play, as the Eagles will continue their four-game road trip at Piedmont College on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
