Emory Men’s Soccer Returns Home to Face Brandeis & NYU

The Emory University men's soccer team will return home this weekend to begin a regular season-ending three-game home stand, hosting Brandeis University on Friday at 5:00 PM and New York University on Sunday at 11:00 AM in a pair of University Athletic Association (UAA) contests.

Emory Eagles
The Eagles will begin the weekend with an 8-7-0 record, including a mark of 4-3-0 in home games this season.  Emory is currently 2-2-0 in UAA games, good for six points and a tie for fourth place in the conference.  The Eagles are coming off a last-minute 1-0 loss at Maryville College on Saturday, the team's final non-conference game of the season.  Emory is led by head coach Sonny Travis, who holds a 64-18-5 record during his five seasons with the team, and a 360-111-42 record during his 25-year career.

Brandeis Judges
Brandeis will enter Friday night's game with an overall record of 10-4-1, including a 4-3-0 record in road games during the year.  The Judges are 1-2-1 in UAA games, placing the squad sixth in the conference with four points, and are currently ranked fifth in the New England Region.  Brandeis features Steve Keuchkarian, who began the week ranked 66th among Division III players with 0.46 assists per game and 87th with six total assists.  In addition, goalkeeper Blake Minchoff is 28th among D-III keepers in save percentage and 31st in goals against average.  Brandeis is led by long-time head coach Mike Coven, who has a record of 436-247-47 during his 39-year career with the Judges.

Last season in Waltham, MA, Emory and Brandeis played to a 1-1 double overtime tie.  After falling behind 1-0 in the third minute, the Eagles battled back, tying the match on an Andrew Natalino penalty kick goal in the 58th minute.  Emory outshot Brandeis 18-14 in the game, including an 8-7 edge in shots on goal.  The Eagles are 17-5-2 all time against Brandeis, including a 12-0-0 record against the Judges in Atlanta.

NYU Violets
NYU will begin the weekend with a 7-6-1 record in 2011, and will play Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA on Friday before taking on the Eagles.  The Violets are 2-4-1 in road games this season, and are 2-2-0 in conference play, tying the squad with Emory for fourth in the conference.  NYU is led offensively by Kyle Green (96th in Division III in goals and 191st in points) and Adam Fein (47th in assists), and defensively by goalkeeper Jonas Poster, who is 74th in goals against average and 128th in save percentage.  The Violets are coached by Joe Behan, who is 145-120-29 during his 16 years with the team.

Last season in New York, en route to the first UAA Championship in the history of the NYU men's soccer program, the Violets defeated the Eagles 1-0.  Both teams registered 10 shots in the contest, with the Eagles holding a 5-3 edge in shots on goal.  Emory is 16-3-4 all time against NYU, including a 10-0-1 mark in games played in Atlanta.

Emory would be eliminated from contention for the UAA's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships with a loss or a Washington University (Mo.) win… Of the team's seven losses this season, four have been by one goal, including each of the last three… All four of Emory's UAA games have been decided by one goal, including a pair of double-overtime games… The Eagles are 64-12-9 all time in home UAA games, good for a .806 winning percentage… Andrew Natalino is currently tied for second in the UAA with three goals in conference play, and third with six points… David Garofalo and Alistair Moore are each tied for fourth in the UAA with two assists apiece in conference action.
