Emory’s David Garofalo Claims UAA Athlete of the Week Honor

Emory University junior David Garofalo was named the University Athletic Association's (UAA) Defensive Athlete of the Week for Men's Soccer, after leading the Eagles to victories over NYU and Brandeis last weekend.

Garofalo scored the game-winning goal during the Eagles' 1-0 win over Brandeis University on Friday.  In addition, the outside back helped Emory record its seventh shutout through 17 games this season.  During a 2-1 double-overtime victory over NYU on Sunday, Garofalo and the Emory defense helped limit the Violets to 12 shots, only four of which were on goal.

He now has one goal and four assists for six points this season, while helping the Eagles defense record a 1.36 goals against average.

The UAA Athlete of the Week honor was the first of Garofalo's career.

With the wins last weekend, Emory moved into a three-way tie for first place in the UAA with one game left to play.  Emory will play for at least a share of the conference title on Saturday, hosting Carnegie Mellon University at 11:00 AM.

The following Eagles have been named the UAA Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week this season:

October 3rd: Alex Wong (Defense)
October 17th: Andrew Goldblum (Defense)
October 31st: David Garofalo (Defense)
