Wong Named to Capital One Academic All-District Team

Emory University junior goalkeeper Alex Wong was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team for his athletic and academic performance during the 2011 season.

Wong played in nine games for Emory during the year, making eight starts.  He recorded a 1.25 goals against average over 793 minutes played, allowing 11 goals and making 31 saves for a .738 save percentage.  Wong has a record of 6-3-0 with four shutouts.

An economics major, Wong has a 3.39 grade point average during his time at Emory.  He earned Academic all-UAA honors for the first time earlier this season.

By virtue of being named to the Capital One Academic All-District team, Wong will be placed on the ballot for the Academic all-America Team, which will be announced on November 29th.

Voting for the Academic All-District team is conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Emory is part of District 5, which includes Division III schools in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Emory will play for the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Saturday, hosting Carnegie Mellon University at 11:00 AM.
