Emory Falls on the Road to #17 Brandeis

Emory Falls on the Road to #17 Brandeis

The Emory University men's soccer team's chance at a University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth took a big hit on Friday night, as the Eagles suffered a 3-1 road loss at 17th-ranked Brandeis University.

Brandeis' Sam Ocel struck for the first time in the game in the 22nd minute, tapping home a shot by Kyle Feather to give the Judges a 1-0 lead that they would carry into the half.

Emory had a pair of solid chances towards the end of the first half, starting with a header shot from Alex Scott in the 43rd minute that went off the crossbar, following a long throw in.  Two minutes later, Connor Curtin took a header off a free kick, but Brandeis goalkeeper Blake Minchoff was able to knock it over the crossbar.

Shortly after the start of the second half, Ocel would score again, taking another shot off a rebound from a Kyle Feather shot in the 49th minute.  In the 81st minute, Tyler Savonen scored his fifth goal of the year to extended Brandeis' lead to 3-0.

Emory senior Andrew Natalino was able to get the Eagles on the board in the 88th minute, scoring his team-leading 12th goal of the season on a free kick.  However, it was too little too late for Emory.

Despite the loss, Emory finished the game with an 11-9 edge in shots, and were even with the Judges with four shots on goal apiece.

With the loss, Emory fell to 2-2-1 in UAA play this season, dropping out of the four-way tie for first place, as Brandeis improved to 3-1-1 in UAA action.  The Eagles are now 8-6-2 overall this season, while Brandeis improved to 15-1-1.

The Eagles will be back in action on Sunday, October 28th at 11:00 AM, as Emory will travel to Gaelic Park in the Bronx, NY, to take on New York University in another UAA matchup.
