Natalino & Scott Head List of Five Eagles on All-UAA Team

Natalino & Scott Head List of Five Eagles on All-UAA Team

Emory University senior co-captain Andrew Natalino was named to the all-University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Soccer First Team, while senior Alex Scott earned second team honors, and senior co-captain David Garofalo, junior Andrew Jones and sophomore Dylan Price were each selected as honorable mentions.

Making the shift to an attacking forward at the start of the season, Natalino has excelled in the role leading all UAA players with 12 goals during the season, and finishing fourth in the conference and first on the team with 26 points.  Four of his goals came during UAA contests, tied for the third-most in the league, and his nine points in UAA games ranked third.  Natalino also registered a pair of assists on the season, both of which came on game-winning goals.

This was the third-straight season that Natalino has been named to the all-UAA first team, joining former Eagles Ho Lee (1988-90), Derek Marinatos (1996-98), Matthew Levine (2001-03), and Karl Dix (2003-05) as the only Emory players to earn three All-UAA First Team selections.  Natalino has also been an all-America selection and two-time all-region honoree during his career.

Scott received an all-conference honor for the second-consecutive season, after earning an honorable mention to the all-UAA team in 2011.  This season, the center back was the anchor of an Emory defense that finished the regular season with a 1.27 goals-against average and six shutouts, in addition to limiting opponents to 9.9 shots and 4.7 shots on goal per game.  Scott, who started all 17 games he played in during the season, contributed on the offensive end as well, scoring three goals during the season, including the game-winning goal against UAA-opponent Case Western Reserve University as part of a two-goal performance in the game.

Garofalo was also a key defensive player for the Eagles at the outside back position, contributing to a backline that did not allow double-digit shots on goal during the year, and kept opposing teams to under 10 shots total in 10 of 18 games.  He was also a contributor on the offensive end, assisting on a team-high six goals, including four in UAA games, and matching a school record with three assists against Case Western Reserve.  Garofalo also scored a goal of his own during the campaign, finishing the regular season with eight points.  It was his second-straight year with all-UAA honor as well, after Garofalo was named to the all-UAA second team in 2011.

Jones finished the regular season third on the squad with 13 points, coming on four goals and five assists.  In UAA games, he registered a pair of goals and assisted on another, including a key late score that led to an Emory tie against the University of Rochester.  The forward also had a pair of two-assist games during the year, coming against Birmingham-Southern College and Sewanee.  Jones also received an all-UAA honorable mention in 2011.

Price earned his second all-UAA honorable mention in as many collegiate campaigns, as the sophomore finished the regular season with six game-winning goals, just one short of the program's single season record.  The forward is second only to Natalino on the team with 11 goals and 25 points, both career-best marks.  He registered two goals and two assists in UAA games, including a game-winning assist during the Eagles' 4-3 double-overtime win against Chicago.  Price also recorded his first-career hat-trick during the year, scoring three goals during a 5-0 win over Birmingham-Southern.

Emory won its seventh UAA Championship in the program's history, forcing a four-way tie for the conference title with an upset victory over sixth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University last Saturday.  The Eagles, who finished the regular season with a 10-6-2 record, were selected to the NCAA Division III Championship field, and will play their first-round game at Roanoke College on Thursday, November 8th at 6:00 PM.
