Emory Head Coach Sonny Travis Inducted to Va. Wesleyan HOF

Current Emory University head men's soccer coach Sonny Travis was inducted as into Virginia Wesleyan College Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, February 2nd, as part of the organization's fifth class.

Travis served as the men's soccer coach at Virginia Wesleyan for 18 years with an overall record of 270-74-31 and a conference record of 119-23-9.  Travis guided VWC to nine first place regular season finishes, eight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament championships and 13 NCAA tournament berths.  His 13 teams that qualified for NCAA competition advanced to regional finals six times, including 2006.  Travis was recognized as a NCAA Division III Coach of the Year Finalist in 1990, 1991, and 1994; KAPPA National Coach of the Year in 1997; NSCAA South Region Coach of the Year in 1990; Virginia Intercollegiate Soccer Association Coach of the Year in 1990, 1991, 1994 and 1995; Virginia Sports Information Directors College Division Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2005; and ODAC Coach of the Year in 1990, 1991, 1994, 1995 and 1998.  Travis also served as VWC's Athletic Director for eight years.

Since coming to Emory in 2007, he has led Emory to a 79-27-7 record, reaching the 50-win mark in just 62 games, faster than any other coach in the program's history.  In his six seasons with the team, he has coached the squad to four NCAA Tournament appearances and two University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships.

For his 27-year career, Travis has a ledger of 373-119-44.  Entering the 2012 season, his .742 career winning percentage ranked him 36th among NCAA all-Division coaches all-time, and 16th among Division III coaches all-time. His 362 victories entering 2012 were the 19th-most in Division III history, and 14th among active Division III coaches.
