Andrejchak’s Late Goal Gives Emory 1-0 Win over Millsaps

Andrejchak’s Late Goal Gives Emory 1-0 Win over Millsaps

Emory University freshman Jason Andrejchak broke a scoreless tie in the 83rd minute on Saturday afternoon to give the Eagles a 1-0 Homecoming Day win over Millsaps College at the Woodruff Physical Education Center.

The Eagles picked up their second-straight victory, improving to 7-3-0 on the year heading into conference play next weekend.  The loss ended a three-game winning streak for the Majors, who fell to 5-4-1 with the defeat.

Emory's defense recorded its third clean sheet of the season, holding Millsaps to just two shots on goal during the game, and 14 total shots.  Sophomore goalkeeper Abe Hannigan picked up his third individual shutout of the campaign, lowering his goals-against average to 1.22, while earning his seventh victory of the season.

Andrejchak's game-winning strike came in the waning minutes of action to lift the Eagles to a late victory.  The opportunity came after a long throw-in down the sideline from junior Jeffrey Cochran that found the feet of junior Dylan Price on the near side of the field.  Price crossed the ball to Andrejchak, who was able to finish for the deciding score.

It was the third goal of the season for Andrejchak, who is now second on the team with nine points.  It also marked the first game-winning goal of his career.  Cochran earned his team-leading fourth assist of the year, while Price notched his third, and leads all Emory players with 15 points this season.

The two squads each had opportunities to score during the first half of action, but neither team was able to convert, playing the first 45 minutes to a scoreless draw.  Emory registered eight shots during the frame, including four on goal, while holding the Majors to five shots, with just one on target.

The second half was proving to be more of the same, before the Eagles took the late advantage.  Emory finished the game with 16 shots, including nine on goal.  Andrejchak led the way, recording a game-high four shots, each of which was on goal.

The Eagles will now turn their attention towards conference play, as Emory will open its 2013 University Athletic Association (UAA) season at home next Sunday against Washington University (Mo.) at 11:00 AM.
