Emory to Face #23 Chicago in First UAA Road Contest

The Emory University Men's Soccer Team will head to the 23rd-ranked University of Chicago for the team's second University Athletic Association (UAA) contest of the season, and its first conference road match of 2013.  The game is slated for a 12:00 PM ET start on Saturday, October 12th.

UAA Update
After one week of competition in the UAA, #12 Brandeis, #25 Rochester and #23 Chicago are each tied for first in the conference with a 1-0-0 record.  Emory and #16 Washington (Mo.) are currently in a two-way tie for fourth place with a 0-0-1 mark in UAA matches, while Carnegie Mellon, New York University and Case Western Reserve are each in a tie for sixth place with a 0-1-0 record.

All eight teams in the conference will be in action on Saturday, with NYU hosting Case Western Reserve at 11:00 AM, Carnegie Mellon playing at Washington at 12:00 PM, and Brandeis hosting Rochester at 3:00 PM.

Emory Eagles
After last weekend's conference-opening 1-1 tie against 16th-ranked Washington University (Mo.), the Eagles stand at 7-3-1 for the season.  Emory is 3-1-0 in road games this year, and checked in at seventh in the latest NSCAA South Atlantic Region poll.  At the start of the week, the team was ranked 88th in Division III with 2.27 goals per game and 148th with a 1.16 goals-against average.  The Eagles have outscored their opponents 25-13 this season, and have outshot opposing squads 199-109.

The Eagles are led by seventh-year head coach Sonny Travis, who has guided the squad to a record of 86-30-8, two UAA Championships and four trips to the NCAA Tournament during his time with the team.  For his 28-year coaching career, he holds an overall record of 380-122-45, the 18th-most victories among Division III coaches all-time.  Travis is assisted by Cory Greiner, goalkeeper coach Clayton Schmitt and volunteer assistant Wesley Lutz.

Chicago Maroons
23rd-ranked Chicago entered into the NSCAA D-III National Poll this week, following the team's 2-1 victory at Carnegie Mellon last Saturday, which improved the Maroons' record to 6-2-1 for the year.  Chicago also received votes in the latest D3Soccer.com poll, and was ranked third in this week's Central Region rankings.  The Maroons are 3-1-0 in home contests this year.

Chicago has outscored opposing teams by a 21-8 margin this year, ranking 82nd among Division III squads with 2.33 goals per game and 79th with a team 0.87 goals-against average.  The Maroons have been led offensively by Michael Choquette, who has scored four goals on the year, while goalkeeper Brett Wiesen will enter the game ranked 51st in Division III with a 0.837 save percentage and 95th with a 0.968 goals-against average.

Chicago Head Coach Mike Babst is in his first year first season with the team, after serving as an assistant coach at Division I Northwestern last year.  He is assisted by Michael Madero and Jeff DeGroot.

Matchup History
Emory is 18-6-2 all-time against Chicago, and has claimed a win in five of the last six meetings.  The Eagles are 9-3-1 in road games during the series' history.

Last year, Emory claimed a 4-3 double-overtime victory over the Maroons, winning the game on a Carl Credle header 'golden goal' with just 27 seconds left in the game.  Junior co-captain Dylan Price and senior Andrew Jones each scored a goal and assisted on another in the game, as the Eagles outshot the Maroons 19-13, including a 6-4 edge in shots on goal.  The seven combined goals in the game matched the most ever scored between the two teams in the all-time series.

Emory Notes
Saturday's game against Chicago will mark the Eagles' second-straight against a nationally-ranked team… Emory is 19-21-4 against nationally-ranked opponents since 1996… The team has gone 41-38-12 in UAA road games all-time, good for a .516 winning percentage… The Eagles are 3-1-2 in their last six UAA contests, dating back to last season… Junior Jeffrey Cochran leads all Emory players in assists this season, and ranks 48th in Division III with 0.5 assists per game and 55th with five total assists… As a team, Emory is 21st among D-III squads with 27 assists and 23rd with 2.45 assists per game… The Eagles are also ranked 54th in both total points (77) and points per game (7.0)… Dylan Price is on pace to break the school single-season record with 2.27 shots on goal per game this season… He is currently tied for 17th in school history with 25 career goals.
