The Emory University Men's Soccer Team saw its six-match undefeated streak come to an end on Wednesday night, when the Eagles suffered a 2-1 defeat at Covenant College.
Joel Friesen scored both goals for Covenant in the first half, striking off a Matt Hudnut assist in the 21st minute, and adding an insurance goal in the 29th minute to extend the lead to 2-0.
Emory would take control in the second half, outshooting the Scots by a 15-4 margin in the frame. The Eagles finally broke through in the 81st minute, when junior Jeffrey Cochran scored his first goal of the season, sending a shot off a defender and into the net for the goal. Sophomore Sebastian Hardington claimed his third assist of the season on the play.
Forty-seven seconds later, Emory had a chance to even the score, but a shot from junior co-captain Dylan Price hit off the crossbar and deflected away from goal. Emory took five more shots before the end of the game, including a pair on goal, but could not come away with the equalizer.
The Eagles ended the game with a 24-14 edge in total shots, including a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal. Price led all players in the game with eight shots, including one on goal.
Emory dropped to 10-4-1 for the campaign with the loss, while the win raised Covenant's season ledger to 9-5-3.
The Eagles will have the next week off before returning to action on Friday, November 1st at the University of Rochester.
