Six Eagles Earn All-UAA Men’s Soccer Honors

Six Eagles Earn All-UAA Men’s Soccer Honors

Led by first-team selection Matt Sherr, six members of the Emory University Men's Soccer Team received all-University Athletic Association (UAA) recognition for their play during the Eagles' 2013 campaign.

Sherr, a sophomore center back, was joined on the all-UAA squads by second team selections in junior forward Dylan Price and sophomore goalkeeper Abe Hannigan, while freshman forward Jason Andrejchak, senior forward Andrew Jones and sophomore midfielder Michael Rheaume were each named honorable mentions.  This was the third career all-UAA honor for both Price and Jones, who were each named all-UAA honorable mentions in 2011 and 2012, and the first conference honors for Sherr, Hannigan, Andrejchak and Rheaume.

Sherr was a key player for an Emory defense that shutout six opponents in 2013, while recording a 1.08 team goals-against average.  In UAA matches, the Eagles defense led all UAA squads with just six goals allowed and an 0.81 goals-against average.  The center back added a goal and two assists during the campaign, including one assist in UAA games.

Price was the Eagles' leading scorer during the year, collecting 10 goals and adding on four assists for 24 points during the season, while also recording a team-best three game-winning goals.  The Eagles' co-captain finished second among all UAA players with four goals and nine points in UAA action, including the game winner against New York University.

Hannigan played every minute of the UAA season for the Eagles, recording the lowest goals-against average (0.81), among conference keepers, while also leading all UAA goalkeepers in save percentage (.846) and saves (33) in conference play.  Overall for the season, the sophomore was 11-5-2 with six shutouts, a 1.09 GAA and a .756 save percentage.

Andrejchak was an immediate impact on the squad during his freshman season, finishing second among all Emory players with five goals and 13 points in 2013.  He started 16 games and appeared in all 18 for the Eagles, scoring game-winning goals against Millsaps and Brandeis.  Two of the forward's goals during the year were of the game-winning variety.

Jones started all 18 games for Emory during his senior campaign, finishing the year with three goals and four assists for 10 points.  During conference play, Jones assisted on a pair of goals, and scored one of his own on a key penalty kick against Carnegie Mellon in the Eagles' regular season finale.

Rheaume finished his 2013 campaign third among all Eagles in goals and points.  The midfielder played in all 18 games during the year, starting all-but one, scoring five goals and adding two assists for 10 points, including a goal against New York University during the course of the UAA season.

Emory ended the 2013 with an overall record of 11-5-2, including a second-place finish in the UAA.
