Emory University junior center back Matt Sherr co-captained the Eagles’ defense and scored a goal of his own to lead the sixth-ranked Eagles to a pair of victories last week. Sherr played all 200 minutes of action, helping hold the two teams to a combined 28 shots, with 11 on goal. During Wednesday’s 2-1 double-overtime win over Oglethorpe University, he played 107 minutes and took one shot, while limiting the Stormy Petrels to eight shots on goal. On Sunday, he helped the Eagles open conference play with a 2-1 overtime win at Washington University (Mo.), limiting the Bears to just eight total shots and three on goal, and scoring his first career ‘golden goal’ in the 93rd minute. For the season, Sherr has scored two goals and assisted on another, while helping the Eagles defense record a 0.56 GAA. Emory remained one of 11 undefeated teams in Division III with an 11-0-1 record in 2014.
