Emory University junior Matt Sherr co-captained a defense that notched a pair of shutouts last week, leading the seventh-ranked Eagles to two wins. Sherr was the only Emory field player to play all 180 minutes during the two games, helping hold the two opponents to a combined 16 shots and five shots on goal. The center back helped hold regionally-ranked and previously undefeated Birmingham-Southern College to just 10 shots, only four of which were on goal, during a 2-0 Eagles’ victory. He followed that by helping to limit the University of South to just six shots, with one on goal, in a 3-0 win on Sunday. Emory has a 0.48 goals-against average this season, including a 0.24 GAA and five shutouts in the seven games Sherr has played in this season. In addition, the Eagles have not allowed a goal in the last 415 minutes and 57 seconds of game time, spanning over the last five games. Sherr and the seventh-ranked Eagles are one of 17 remaining undefeated teams in Division III this season, and have won nine-straight games to improve to 9-0-1 overall.
