#6 Emory Men’s Soccer Suffers First Loss of Campaign, 1-0 to Chicago

Emory University's offense struggled to get opportunities against the University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon, as the sixth-ranked Eagles suffered their first loss of the season, a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Maroons at the Woodruff Physical Education Center.

After looking dangerous throughout the first half, Chicago broke through in the 29th minute of play, when Michael Choquette sent a long cross from the near side of the field into the six-yard box, where Brenton Desai was waiting to head the ball in for his sixth goal of the season.

After being outshot 8-4 in the first half, Emory managed to outshoot the Maroons 8-6 in the second frame.  However, the Eagles could not find the equalizer, despite finishing the contest with a 4-3 edge in shots on goal.

The loss was the first of the season for Emory, which dropped to 11-1-1 overall, including a 1-1-0 mark in University Athletic Association (UAA) play.  In addition, the defeat ended an 11-match winning streak for the Eagles, the second-longest in the program's history.

Chicago improved to 7-4-1 on the season, and raised its conference ledger to 1-0-1.  Goalkeeper Hill Bonin made four saves in the shutout effort.

Emory will continue its conference schedule next weekend, traveling north to play at New York University on Friday, October 17th at 5:00 PM, and at fourth-ranked Brandeis University on Sunday, October 19th at 11:00 AM.
