Senior (2015):

Sherr was named to the D3Soccer.com All-America Third Team for the second consecutive year and was a NSCAA South Atlantic First Team member to go along being selected to the All-UAA First Team for the third straight season after he posted career-highs in goals with four and points with 10 and anchored the defensive unit that ranked 42nd in the country with a 0.73 goals-against average. Sherr was the lone Eagle to start in all 17 contests during the season and became the all-time program leader in minutes played with 6,487. He was also named a CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team and a NSCAA Scholar All-America Second Team selection for the first time in his career after being named Academic All-District for the second straight season. Matt was named to the Sonny Carter Invitational All-Tournament Team, leading the defense in Emory’s 1-1 showing. He scored his first goal of the season, the lone Eagle tally, in a loss to Spalding on September 12th. He scored the game-winner against Huntingdon two weeks later on the 19th. Sherr was named the UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time on the season on October 12th after he assisted on the game-winner against then ranked #17 Washington and helped limit the Bears to just six shots in the contest with one being on goal. He was named the UAA DAOW for the second time on November 9th after he scored the game-winner against Rochester in the season finale and helped keep the Yellowjackets out of the scoring column.

Junior (2014):

Sherr was selected to the D3Soccer.com All-America Third Team after leading an Eagles defense that ranked 16th in Division III with a 0.60 goals-against average during the 2014 season.  In addition, he was an all-University Athletic Association First Team selection and a two-time conference Defensive Athlete of the Week (September 15 and September 29th).  He was named the Most Valuable Player of the Warrior Classic, after leading the Eagles to wins over Rhodes College and Hendrix College by a combined score of 8-1 at the tournament, scoring his first goal of the season in the game against Rhodes.  Sherr and the Eagles’ backline notched nine shutout efforts and helped limit opponents to averages of 11.1 shots and 3.4 shots on goal per game, while yielding just 12 goals to the opposition.  The center back started 16 games during the season and appeared in 17 total.  He added two goals and an assist on the offensive side of the field, including the ‘golden goal’ in a 2-1 overtime win against conference rival Washington University (Mo.) on October 5th. His lone assist of the season came during the Eagles’ 2-1 overtime win against Covenant College on September 10th.  Sherr finished the year with nine shots, including four on goal.  In addition, for his academic and athletic achievements during the season, he was named to the Capital One/ CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for the first time in his collegiate career.

Sophomore (2013):

Sherr emerged as one of the top defensive players in the University Athletic Association (UAA) during his sophomore campaign, as the center back was Emory’s lone selection to the all-UAA First Team, in addition to earning a spot on the NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region Third Team.  He was one of just four players to start all 18 games during the season, playing the entirety of 16 of the contests, and logged 1,635 minutes, the most by an Eagle position player during the year and sixth-most in a single season in school history.  Sherr led a defense that recorded a 1.08 goals-against average and six shutouts during the season, while limiting opponents to 12.3 shots and 4.7 shots on goal per game.  He finished the season with eight shots, including four on goal.  He also contributed offensively with one goals and two assists during the year.  He opened his season by scoring a goal during Emory’s 6-2 win over Marian University (Wis.) on August 31st, later earning a spot on the Sonny Carter Invitational All-Tournament Team and UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week honors for his efforts.  He assisted on the game-winning goal against New York University on October 18th, while adding another assist against Birmingham-Southern College on September 25th.  Sherr took 12 shots, including three on goal, during the campaign.

Freshman (2012):

Sherr made an immediate impact on the team during his freshman season, playing in 19 games and making 18 starts, while logging 1,752 minutes, the second-highest total in school history.  He scored a goal in his first collegiate game, forcing a 1-1 tie with Brewton-Parker College and earning a spot on the Sonny Carter Invitational All-Tournament Team.  Sherr also scored during a 4-0 win over Spalding University on September 7th, and assisted on a goal during a 5-0 win at Birmingham-Southern College on September 20th.  The defender was a key player for an Emory backline that recorded six shutouts and a 1.34 goals-against average during the year, limiting opposing teams to 9.65 shots and 4.55 shots on goal per game.  Sherr ended the year with 26 shots, 12 of which were on goal.

Prior to Emory:

Played for the Roslyn High School soccer team for four seasons, serving as the team captain in 2010 and 2011... Earned all-county honors in 2010 and 2011, and all-conference honors in 2009... Scored 10 goals and assisted on three others during his senior year, and notched a career-best 16 goals and five assists in 2010... Was coached by Juan Mejia in high school... Played club soccer for the Met Oval Developmental Academy from 2010-12, where he was coached by Peter Hulse... Also bowled in high school.

Personal:

Born Novemeber 17, 1994... Was a scholar-athlete all four years in high school.
